[Access to and Transitions within the Medical Care Process of Persons with Down Syndrome and Dementia: A Qualitative Analysis].

Compared to the general population, individuals with Down syndrome carry a much higher genetic risk of developing early onset Alzheimer's dementia. This leads to unique challenges and the need for a targeted patient journey.In a qualitative interview study with medical professionals, patient organisations and formal and informal care persons, we assessed barriers within the medical care process of this patient group as well as current approaches to overcome these problems.

[Rehabilitative short-term care (REKUP): acceptance and practicability of a new care concept].

Background: Rehabilitative short-term care (REKUP) is aimed at geriatric patients in need of rehabilitation but not (yet) capable of rehabilitation after acute inpatient hospitalization with a positive rehabilitation prognosis. It was tested at two geriatric rehabilitation clinics from October 2020 to March 2022.

Objective: Qualitative process evaluation with respect to acceptance (service providers, health insurance), adoption (implementation at the start of the project), practicability (processes, contents, structures) and observed patient satisfaction.

Implementation of socio-economic variables in risk adjustment systems: A quantitative analysis using the example of Germany.

At least in Western Europe, competitive social health insurance systems have implemented systems of morbidity-based risk adjustment to establish a level playing field for insurers. However, insured persons with specific socio-economic characteristics are still underfunded, leaving incentives for risk selection. In Germany, there is an ongoing debate about (re)implementing socio-economic variables to reduce this undercompensation.

Methods: The study was conducted as a nonrandomized intervention trial with an historical control group (CG).

Study Objective: To conduct a cost and cost-effectiveness analyses of REKUP and provide data for a nationwide rollout.

Preference-Based Implementation of Video Consultations in Urban and Rural Regions in Outpatient Care in Germany: Protocol for a Mixed Methods Study.

Background: Particularly in rural regions, factors such as lower physician density and long travel distances complicate adequate outpatient care. However, urban regions can also be affected by deficits in care, for example, long waiting times. One model of care intending to improve the situation is the implementation of video consultations.

Spatial attention represents a powerful top-down influence on sensory responses in primate visual cortical areas. The frontal eye field (FEF) has emerged as a key candidate area for the source of this modulation. However, it is unclear whether the FEF exerts its effects via its direct axonal projections to visual areas or indirectly through other brain areas and whether the FEF affects both the enhancement of attended and the suppression of unattended sensory responses.

Evaluation criteria for health apps supporting medication adherence in early-stage technology development - a scoping review.

Introduction: Health apps offer an approach to improve the patients' management of their medication. Although the Digital Healthcare Act (DVG) has created a claim in the statutory health insurance (SHI), the large number of health apps available and their varying quality make it difficult for service providers and especially for medical laypersons to select an adequate high-quality medication app. Manufacturers need guidance for the development of high-quality apps right from the start.

Histamine up-regulates oncostatin M expression in human M1 macrophages.

Background And Purpose: Human monocyte-derived M1 macrophages develop in relation to growth factors, bacterial products, and cytokines in a local micro-environment. M1 macrophages produce pro-inflammatory mediators, in particular, oncostatin M (OSM), which is secreted from the cells in response to the active complement component C5a. As C5a also releases histamine from human mast cells and shows immune modulatory functions similar to histamine in regulating expression of the IL-12 cytokine family, we investigated the effects of histamine on OSM expression in human M1 macrophages.

Long-term follow-up of pediatric patients receiving total body irradiation before hematopoietic stem cell transplantation and post-transplant survival of >2 years.

Background: Total body irradiation (TBI) treatment eradicates malignant cells and suppresses the immune system before hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). The radiation dose is limited by its toxicity to healthy organs. Many reports describe long-term sequelae from TBI in adults, but comparable data for pediatric patients are scarce.

Challenges and strategies for conducting survey and focus group research with culturally diverse groups.

The professions represented by the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association are serving a wide range of populations as diversity in the United States continues to grow rapidly. This article offers tentative guidance for and invites an open dialogue with other researchers interested in culturally sensitive research issues. Specifically, as the professions adopt an increasingly global perspective, it is likely that researchers will need to acquire skills in conducting research within culturally diverse populations.

The objective of this study was to determine the usefulness of acoustic tracking as a supplement to perceptual judgements during remediation. One child, receiving weekly individual treatment, participated in a drill-and-practice approach to remediation for a single [w]-for-/r/ substitution error. Imitations of consonant-vowel (CV), VCV, and matched /r/ and /w/ sentence stimuli were audiotape recorded.

Electrophoretic patterns of proteins from Paragonimus westermani in early developmental stages.

In order to observe the protein compositions of soluble extracts of P. westermani, and their changes during early developmental stages, the crude saline extracts of 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12 week-old worms which were harvested from experimentally infected dogs were analysed by disc-PAGE. The results were as follows: A total of 15 bands were identified from electrophoregrams of respective developmental stages.
