Introduction: We aimed to assess the effectiveness and tolerability of dolutegravir (DTG), abacavir (ABC) and lamivudine (3TC) administered as branded STR (DTG/ABC/3TC) or as two separate pills (DTG and either branded ABC/3TC [DTG+(ABC/3TC)b] or generic ABC/3TC [DTG+(ABC/3TC)g]).

Methods: We included individuals from the multicentre cohort of the Spanish HIV/AIDS Research Network (CoRIS) who received DTG/ABC/3TC, DTG+(ABC/3TC)b or DTG+(ABC/3TC)g during 2015 to 2018. We used multivariable logistic regression to compare the proportion of antiretroviral-naïve individuals who achieved viral suppression (VS) (viral load ≤50 copies/mL) at 24 weeks of initiating with DTG+(ABC/3TC)b or DTG+(ABC/3TC)g versus DTG/ABC/3TC.

The aim of this study was to describe the clinical and epidemiological profile of immunosuppressed patients with imported strongyloidiasis in a non-endemic setting, and to compare these results with non-immunosuppressed patients. This is a case-control substudy from a larger observational retrospective study that included all patients with strongyloidiasis registered in the +REDIVI Spanish Collaborative Network. Overall, 1245 patients with imported strongyloidiasis were included.

Objective: To describe the epidemiological characteristics of new cases of HIV infection diagnosed from 1997-2001 and compare them with AIDS cases (1991-2001).

Methods: Data were retrospectively collected on new cases of HIV infection detected in the Basque Country (1997-2001) and were compared with AIDS cases (1991-2001).

Results: A total of 912 new cases of HIV infection were diagnosed.

We report a clinical case of multiple mycotic aneurysms, in the ascending aorta, aortic arch, and descending aorta. The patient underwent surgery to replace the ascending aorta and aortic arch by means of a highly modified "elephant trunk" technique and with the aid of arterial cannulation from the right subclavian artery, which provided antegrade cerebral perfusion. Samples of purulent material taken from the aneurysmal wall yielded cultures positive for Staphylococcus aureus.

Introduction: Subgroups having dissimilar prognoses are being identified among cancer patients with infection. Previous studies have suggested that these differences may be related to the histologic diagnosis, but this issue has not as yet been demonstrated.

Methods: We reviewed the medical records of all patients admitted with acute leukemia (AL) or lymphoma (ML) from 1988 to 1998.

Background: The health status and needs of gypsies have been insufficiently studied.

Patients And Method: We studied the clinicoepidemiological characteristics of all HIV-1 infected patients attending in our outpatients clinic and hospitalized who were classified according to their ethnic origin as <>, <> (Caucasian non-gypsy Spanish natives) or <>.

Results: Overall, there were 563 patients out of 674 previously appointed (83%).

Background: To estimate the association between HIV infection and cervical intraepithelial neoplasia (CIN).

Patients And Methods: Cross-sectional study based on data from 251 women from a Sexually Transmitted Diseases clinic. Patients with CIN were compared with those without CIN in terms of HIV infection and exposure to other risk factors, calculating the corresponding adjusted odds ratio (ORA) by logistic regression.

Background: Few studies have been reported on the potential usefulness of Fansidar combination at a fixed doses of pyrimethamine and sulfadoxine as prophylaxis for pneumonia by Pneumocystis carinii and toxoplasmic encephalitis.

Methods: The clinical histories of the patients seen in our department from January, 1992 to December, 1994 who were prescribed pyrimethamine and sulfadoxine for the above prophylactic treatment were reviewed.

Results: One hundred fifty clinical histories fulfilled the requisites for evaluation.

Background: Epidemiologic data suggest that zidovudine (ZDV) could prevent the AIDS dementia complex (ADC), but this hypothesis has been specifically studied.

Patients And Methods: We have reviewed the medical records of all patients with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) infection admitted to our section between January 1990 and December 1993 who were diagnosed with ADC, and we have compared them to those of a control group with regard to the interruption of ZDV at least 3 months before. Controls were selected from the remaining HIV-related admissions, matched by calendar year, CD4-cell count and previous HIV-disease stage.

Background: Recognition of the importance of bacterial pneumonias in the context of HIV infection has continuously grown throughout the pandemia. It has recently been suggested that these may be predictors of progression of the disease.

Patients And Methods: The evolution of an historic cohort of patients with HIV infection who were studied in 1989 with pneumonia regarding the presentation of AIDS or death was investigated.

The medical records of 157 patients taking pyrimethamine-sulfadoxine for Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia prophylaxis were reviewed for assessment of safety and tolerance. 11 patients had experienced side effects, 7 (1 each: neutropenia, Stevens-Johnson, hepatic abnormalities; 2 each: subjective and hypersensitivity reactions) leading to a discontinuation of the drugs.
