Background: It is not uncommon for some individuals to retain certain primitive characteristics even after domestication or long-term intensive selection. Wild ancestors or original varieties of animals typically possess strong adaptability to environmental preservation, a trait that is often lacking in highly artificially selected populations. In the case of the Merino population, a world-renowned fine wool sheep breed, a phenotype with primitive coarse wool characteristic has re-emerged.

The purpose of our study was to analyze the association between the use of probiotics and retinopathy of prematurity.
Methods: This study retrospectively collected clinical data of premature infants with gestational age <32 weeks and birth weight <1500 g admitted to the neonatal intensive care unit from January 1, 2019 to December 31, 2021 in Suzhou Municipal Hospital, China.
β-catenin is a conserved molecule that plays an important role in hair follicle development. In this study, we generated skin-specific overexpression of ovine β-catenin in transgenic mice by pronuclear microinjection. Results of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing and Southern blot showed that the ovine β-catenin gene was successfully transferred into mice, and the exogenous β-catenin gene was passed down from the first to sixth generations.

However, the molecular mechanisms underlying wool production have not been fully elucidated. In this study, we investigated the effects of ovine β-catenin on wool follicles of transgenic sheep produced by pronuclear microinjection with a skin-specific promoter of human keratin14 (k14).

Background: Black bone sheep was first discovered in Yunnan province of China in 1970, with unique black pigmentation on the body and internal organs. Endothelin 3 () has been known as a key gene causing hyperpigmentation in black bone chicken, the Silky fowl.
Methods: In this study, was employed as a candidate gene for regulating black color pigmentation.
The Silky Fowl (SF) is known for its special phenotypes and atypical distribution of melanocytes among internal organs. Although the genes associated with melanocyte migration have been investigated substantially, there is little information on the postnatal distribution of melanocytes in inner organs and the effect of hyperpigmentation on the development of SF. Here, we analyzed melanocyte distribution in 26 tissues or organs on postnatal day 1 and weeks 2, 3, 4, 6, 10, and 23.

View Article and Find Full Text PDFβ-Catenin is an evolutionarily conserved molecule that functions as a crucial effector in both cell-to-cell adhesion and Wnt signaling. To gain a better understanding of its role in the development of hair follicles, we cloned the cDNA sequence of the β-catenin gene from the skin of Aohan fine-wool sheep and performed a variety of bioinformatics analyses. We obtained the full-length sequence, which was 4573-bp long and contained a 2346-bp open reading frame encoding a protein of 781 amino acids.
