Vaginal candidiasis poses significant health concerns that affect approximately 75% of women globally and often leads to discomfort and a decrease in quality of life. Traditional treatments, despite their effectiveness, may cause discomfort and adverse effects, such as vaginal discharge, bleeding, and dryness, promoting the exploration of alternative formulations. In this study, we aimed to develop a novel therapeutic approach for the treatment of vaginal candidiasis utilizing oleic acid containing emulgels made from thermoresponsive poloxamer-based hydrogels.

Viscosity provides information about the stability of the composition, the release rate of the drug, bioavailability, and, in the case of injectable drug formulations, even the force required for injection. However, measuring viscosity is a complex task with numerous challenges, especially for non-Newtonian materials, which include most pharmaceutical formulations, such as gels.

Background: Respiratory diseases are mainly derived from acute and chronic inflammation of the alveoli and bronchi. The pathophysiological mechanisms of pulmonary inflammation mainly arise from oxidative damage that could ultimately lead to acute lung injury. Apigenin (Api) is a natural polyphenol with prominent antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties in the lung.

Several topical fungal infections, such as eye mycoses, can be treated by local administration of antimycotic drugs. One major group of the antifungal agents is triazole, such as voriconazole (VCZ), which is used as the first line treatment of aspergillosis.

Apigenin, a plant flavonoid, has antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and anticancer activities but its delivery is challenging. It could be absorbed through the whole intestine, however, it has poor bioavailability due to its low aqueous solubility.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFThe aqueous solubility of a flavonoid, apigenin, was studied in the presence of first generation cyclodextrins (α-CyD, β-CyD, γ-CyD), ionic and nonionic synthetic derivatives of β-CyD, namely SBE-β-CyD, HP-β-CyD and RM-β-CyD at various physiological pH. The order of solubility enhancement was as follows: RM-β-CyD>SBE-β-CyD>γ-CyD>HP-β-CyD>β-CyD>α-CyD. The phase solubility diagrams of HP-β-CyD and SBE-β-CyD indicated Higuchi AL subtype behavior, suggesting 1:1 stoichiometry of the complex.
