Reflectivity and spectral shift from laser plasmas generated by high-contrast, high-intensity KrF laser pulses.

The energy and spectrum of the reflected 248 nm radiation are studied from solid targets up to 1.15 × 10 W cm intensity. The experiments used the 700 fs directly amplified pulses of the KrF system which was cleaned from prepulses with the new Fourier-filtering method providing 12 orders of magnitude temporal contrast.

Valproate treatment normalizes EEG functional connectivity in successfully treated idiopathic generalized epilepsy patients.

Aim: To investigate the effect of chronic VPA treatment of EEG functional connectivity in successfully treated idiopathic generalized epilepsy (IGE) patients.

Patients And Methods: 19-channel waking, resting-state EEG records of 26 IGE patients were analyzed before treatment (IGE) and after the 90th day of treatment (VPA), in seizure-free condition. Three minutes of artifact-free EEG background activity (without epileptiform potentials) was analyzed for each patient in both conditions.

Comparison of two depth of anaesthesia monitors during general anaesthesia: electrophysiological and clinical assessment.

Unlabelled: Cerebral state monitor (CSM) is a recently developed anaesthesia depth monitor based on EEG measurement. Medline search confirmed that the accuracy of this monitor has already been compared with BIS monitoring; however, we did not find any studies comparing CSM monitor with AEP monitoring. Therefore, the aim of our study was to investigate the correlation between AAI using AEP monitor and CSI (cerebral state index) using CSM monitor.

Regional distribution and effects of postmortal delay on endocannabinoid content of the human brain.

Tissue levels of anandamide (AEA) and 2-arachidonoylglycerol (2-AG) have been determined in 16 regions and nuclei from human brains, using liquid chromatography/in-line mass spectrometry. Measurements in brain samples stored at -80 degrees C for 2 months to 13 years indicated that endocannabinoids were stable under such conditions. In contrast, the postmortal delay had a strong effect on brain endocannabinoid levels, as documented in brain samples microdissected and frozen 1-6 h postmortem, and in neurosurgical samples 0, 5, 30, 60, 180 and 360 min after their removal from the brain.
