Profiles of Elderly Patients with Obesity Hypoventilation Syndrome in Martinique: A Single-Center Study.

Obesity hypoventilation syndrome (OHS) is a form of chronic respiratory insufficiency related to obesity that affects young and old people. Age appears to be associated with poorer response to treatment by nighttime ventilation. This study aimed to describe the characteristics of elderly subjects (>65 years) with OHS compared to younger patients, with a view to adapting therapy in older individuals.

Incidental discovery of duplicated inferior vena cava in a septuagenarian: the radiologist's viewpoint.

Duplication of the inferior vena cava is a rare malformation, normally without clinical impact, explained by abnormal development and regression of certain segments of the venous system during embryonic life. However, its presence and type should be systematically reported in the radiological report because of its potential implications for diagnostic and interventional procedures. This observation describes the case of a 77-year-old man with a complete asymmetric duplication of the inferior vena cava (type III IVC according to Natsis) that was incidentally discovered on CT-scan.

Synthesis, structure and magnetic investigations of dinuclear lanthanide complexes based on 2-ethoxycinnamate.

A series of dinuclear lanthanide complexes incorporating the 2-ethoxycinnamate ligand have been synthesized and characterized using elemental analyses, infra-red spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction and magnetic measurements. Depending on the nature of the lanthanide ion, three different isostructural series of respective formulas, [Ln(L)3(DMSO)(H2O)]2 (Ln = Ce (1), Nd (2)), [Ln(L)3(DMSO)x(DMF)y(H2O)]2 (Ln = Gd (3), Dy (5) and Er (6)) and [Tb(L)3(DMF)(H2O)]2 (4) have been obtained. Investigations of their magnetic properties reveal a genuine single-molecule magnet behaviour observed for the dysprosium based compound 5, while a field-induced slow relaxation of the magnetization is found for compounds 1, 2 and 3.

[An anthropological approach to how Tchaman people in the Côte-d'Ivoire view hemiplegia].

Objective: Investigate the underlying beliefs, knowledge and therapeutic attitudes toward hemiplegia of the Tchaman people of the Ivory Coast.

Material And Methods: A descriptive and cross-sectional study conducted over 10 months in 20 Tchaman village communities in the Ivory Coast. Three groups of people were interviewed: patients with hemiplegia, the circle and close neighbourhood of patients and traditional doctors.
