Background: Prospective data on chemotherapy for (frail) elderly patients with advanced colorectal cancer (aCRC) are scant. UFT/leucovorin might be as effective as and less toxic than capecitabine. We firstly randomized both agents in patients >65 years with aCRC not amenable to receive combination chemotherapy.

The CAIRO3 study was designed to determine the efficacy of maintenance treatment with capecitabine plus bevacizumab versus observation.
Methods: In this open-label, phase 3, randomised controlled trial, we recruited patients in 64 hospitals in the Netherlands.
Background: In anthracycline-pretreated metastatic breast cancer (MBC) patients, it is unknown whether weekly single-agent docetaxel is preferable to 3-weekly docetaxel regarding its toxicity and efficacy profile.
Patients And Methods: In this multicenter, randomised, open-label phase III trial, 162 patients were randomised to weekly docetaxel (group A) or 3-weekly docetaxel (group B). The primary end-point was tolerability; secondary end-points were efficacy and quality of life (QoL).
Alpha thalassemia retardation associated with chromosome16 (ATR-16 syndrome) is defined as a contiguous gene syndrome resulting from haploinsufficiency of the alpha-globin gene cluster and genes involved in mental retardation (MR). To date, only few cases have been described which result from pure monosomy for a deletion of 16p. In most of these cases the deletion was identified by densitometric analysis of Southern blot results or by Fluorescent In Situ Hybridization analysis, and these alterations have not been mapped in detail.

Objectives: In a prospective study the combination of protected specimen brush (PSB) and protected bronchoalveolar lavage (PBAL) was compared with bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL) for evaluated feasibility and diagnostic yield in granulocytopenic patients with hematologic malignancies and pulmonary infiltrates.
