Background: Metabolic dysfunction-associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD) displays a worse prognosis in subjects with type 2 diabetes (T2D); effective treatments are, so far, scanty. Semaglutide showed efficacy in improving steatohepatitis. We longitudinally observed a MASLD cohort of T2D subjects starting semaglutide, to detect an improvement of non-invasive surrogates of steatosis and fibro-inflammatory liver involvement, evaluating the role of mild alcohol consumption.

Heart ultrasonography, unusually performed in such subjects, would be able to detect initial signs of organ damage. We described the cardiovascular risk profile of non-diabetic post-menopausal women, evaluating how easily computed, biochemistry-derived scores were related to ultrasonographic measures of target organ damage.

This technique has previously been shown to be useful in the differential diagnosis between benign and malignant tumors.
Methods: The objective of this study was to assess the diagnostic accuracy of US-elastography in the differential diagnosis of thyroid cancer, using the cytologic/histopathologic analysis as the reference standard.

Objective: Hypercholesterolemia markedly impairs endothelial function. Whether this is the case for hypertriglyceridemia is less clear, however, and limited evidence exists on the effect of an acute increase in triglyceridemia caused by a high-fat meal.
Methods And Results: In 16 normotensive subjects with an untreated mild hypertriglyceridemia and dyslipidemia and in 7 normal controls, we measured radial artery diameter and blood flow by an echo-tracking device (NIUS02).
Goal: We evaluated the effect of venesections and restricted diet on iron and metabolic indices and liver function tests in patients with insulin-resistance hepatic iron overload (IR-HIO).
Materials And Methods: Patients were divided in three groups: (a) patients without any therapy who were followed-up for 36+28 months; (b) patients venesected; and (c) patients on dietary treatment. In each group baseline and end-point levels of serum iron and metabolic indices, and liver function tests were compared by Student's paired t-test and the relationship between serum ferritin and the other variables during treatment was evaluated by linear regression analysis.
The use of existing detecting systems developed for nuclear physics studies allows collecting data on particle and ion production cross-sections in reactions induced by Oxygen and Carbon beams, of interest for hadrontherapy and heavy-ion risk assessment. The MULTICS and GARFIELD apparatus, together with the foreseen experiments, are reviewed.

Extremely energetic protons (E(NN)(p) > or = 130 MeV) were measured and their multiplicity is found to increase almost quadratically with the number of participant nucleons, thus indicating the onset of a mechanism beyond one- and two-body dynamics.

C4b-binding protein (C4b-BP) is a high molecular weight plasma protein which inhibits the activity of the classical complement pathway C3 convertase. In addition to multiple binding sites for C4b, C4b-BP possesses a single binding site for vitamin K-dependent protein S, an inhibitor of blood coagulation. As protein S bound to C4b-BP has no anticoagulant activity, C4b-BP participates in the regulation of both the complement and the coagulation pathways.

Since several reports have indicated that apolipoprotein (a) [apo(a)] levels are positively associated with an increased risk of macrovascular disease, we investigated whether apo(a) levels are elevated in both types of diabetes mellitus and may thus represent an independent risk factor for atherosclerotic disease. All monoclonal antibodies were specific for apolipoprotein A-I and bound between 55% and 100% of 125I-labeled high density lipoproteins (HDL) in a fluid phase radioimmunoassay. All antibodies possessed a higher affinity to apoA-I in HDL than to free, delipidated apoA-I.
