Background: The progression of diabetic nephropathy (DN) is closely associated with lipid accumulation. Diosgenin (Dio) plays a beneficial role in the lipid metabolism associated with multiple diseases. Thus, the mechanism underlying Dio's function in DN associated with aberrant lipid accumulation warrants further investigation.

Polygonatum sibiricum polysaccharides (PSP), the primary constituent of Polygonatum sibiricum, have been shown to exhibit a wide range of pharmacological effects, but their impact on osteoarthritis (OA) remains unclear. The objective of this study was to investigate the protective effects of PSP against OA and to elucidate its underlying molecular mechanism. In our in vitro experiments, PSP not only inhibited the IL-1β-induced inflammatory responses and the nuclear factor kappa-B (NF-κB) signaling pathway in chondrocytes but also regulated the cartilage matrix metabolism.

Background: Prostate cancer (PCa) incidence and mortality rates are rising. Our previous research has shown that the combination of icariin (ICA) and curcumol (CUR) induced autophagy and ferroptosis in PCa cells, and altered lipid metabolism. We aimed to further explore the effects of the combination of ICA and CUR on gut microbiota, metabolism, and immunity in PCa.

Article Synopsis
  • * When exposed to these conditions, the levels of a substance called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) in the blood go down, and changes happen in gut bacteria.
  • * Lower levels of another substance, lithocholic acid, lead to decreased GLP-1, but combining lithocholic acid with certain inhibitors can increase GLP-1 levels again, showing how our bodies respond to heat and humidity.

  • Diabetes mellitus erectile dysfunction (DMED) is a common complication of diabetes, and the study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of methyl protodioscin (MPD) as a treatment.
  • In experiments with diabetic mice and vascular cells exposed to high glucose, MPD was found to enhance cell viability, reduce apoptosis, and alter key protein levels related to erectile function.
  • The findings suggest that MPD improves erectile dysfunction in diabetic mice by regulating the interaction between c-Myc and AKAP12, indicating its potential as a natural remedy for DMED.

Erectile dysfunction (ED) is a major health problem affecting a large proportion of the general population. Testosterone also plays a key role in sexual dysfunction. In this study, we found that testosterone can inhibit cavernous fibrosis by affecting the expression of miR-22-3p, providing a new basis for research and treatment of ED.

Article Synopsis
  • Most medicines today have harmful side effects and are becoming less effective due to microbial resistance, highlighting the need for alternative drugs with fewer side effects.
  • Plants are promising sources for these alternative drugs because they contain a diverse range of chemicals that are still being researched for their beneficial properties.
  • In China, traditional medicine uses various plant extracts for health benefits, and specific compounds like luteolin and kaempferol have shown potential in fighting infections, reducing pain, and treating chronic diseases.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is a chronic joint disease characterized by progressive cartilage degeneration, which imposes a heavy physical and financial burden on the middle-aged and elderly population. As the pathogenesis of OA has not been fully elucidated, it is of great importance to develop targeted therapeutic or preventive medications. Traditional therapeutic drugs, such as non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, steroids and opioids, have significant side effects, making the exploration for safe and effective alternative therapeutic drugs urgent.

The aim of this paper was to analyze the microarray data between ulcerative colitis(UC) patients and healthy people by bioinformatics technology, screen the differentially expressed genes of UC, and predict the potential Chinese medicines for UC. The GSE36807 gene expression profile was downloaded from the gene expression database(GEO) and the differentially expressed(both up-regulated and down-regulated) genes(DEGs) were analyzed by using R language software. The core genes in the DEGs were obtained by using String database, Cytoscape software and its plug-in analysis, and the gene ontology(GO) and Kyoto encyclopedia of genes and genomes(KEGG) were used to analyze the core genes.
