Glucoamylase was often used in the brewing industry but was unstable to several environmental factors and reacted quickly to produce fermentable sugar, which limited its applications. Microencapsulation could effectively overcome the drawbacks. This study evaluated the feasibility of the preparation of glucoamylase microcapsules (GM) using W/O/W complex coacervation-freeze-drying method.

In this work, the crystal structures of ordered and disordered LiAlO obtained by slow cooling and rapid quenching, respectively, were analyzed by a X-ray diffraction (XRD) Rietveld refinement and OccQP program. The variation in the bonding state of atoms in the two compounds was explored by the bond valence model, which revealed that the instability of spinel-type LiAlO crystal structure at room temperature is mainly due to the severe under-bonding of the tetrahedrally coordinated Al cations.

The current study was designed to investigate the effect of PBM on synaptic proteins and astrocyte polarization of photothrombotic (PT)-stroke induced rats in vivo, and explore the possible effect of PBM treatment on oxygen-glucose deprivation (OGD)-induced neurotoxic astrocytic polarization in vitro. We reported that 2-min PBM treatment (808 nm) for 7 days significantly increased synaptic proteins and neuroprotective astrocytic marker S100 Calcium Binding Protein A10 (S100A10) and inhibited neurotoxic astrocytic marker C3d in the peri-infarct region after ischemic stroke.

Such optical states not only offer a promising way to overcome the problem of losses associated with plasmonic materials, but also constitute an efficient platform for interaction of light and matter. Here, we report the radiationless states in compact, ultrathin transition-metal-dichalcogenide metasurfaces, namely bound states in the continuum (BICs).

With an objective to accelerate much-needed genetic analyses and breeding applications, draft genome assemblies were generated in several legume crops; many of them are not high quality because they are mainly based on short reads. However, the superior quality of genome assembly is crucial for a detailed understanding of genomic architecture, genome evolution, and crop improvement.

Deficit irrigation, which balances crop growth and water consumption, has been proposed, but the critical threshold is not easily quantified. Here, we conducted experiments on strawberry plants subjecting progressive drought following various water recovery treatments on the high-throughput physiological phenotyping system "Plantarray".

Background: The average age at thelarche has trended downwards worldwide since 1970s; however, the onset age of "precocious puberty", defined as the lower percentiles of thelarche age, has been rarely reported. This systematic review aims to evaluate secular trends in age at thelarche among Chinese girls.
Methods: This systematic review on the age at thelarche during puberty among Chinese girls was conducted systematic search of both Chinese (Chinese National Knowledge Infrastructure, WanFang Database, and the Chinese Scientific Journals Database) and English (PubMed, Cochrane Library, and Embase) databases.
Here, we experimentally demonstrate a wedged fiber optic surface plasmon resonance (SPR) sensor enabling high-sensitivity temperature detection. The sensing probe has a geometry with two asymmetrical bevels, with one inclined surface coated with an optically thin film supporting propagating plasmons and the other coated with a reflecting metal film. The angle of incident light can be readily tuned through modifying the beveled angles of the fiber tip, which has a remarkable impact on the refractive index sensitivity of SPR sensors.

Its extract can improve hepatic morphology and function: on the one hand, it can reduce liver interstitial collagen deposition, lipogenesis, and inflammatory cell infiltration and improve fibrosis; on the other hand, it can prevent hepatocellular degeneration by scavenging reactive oxygen species (ROS) and inhibiting inflammatory cytokine production, further improve hepatocyte apoptosis and necrosis, and promote hepatocyte regeneration, making it a promising liver-protective agent. Current research on placenta extract (PE) mainly focuses on treating a specific type of liver injury, and there are no systematic reports.

In this study, a four-timepoint exposure experiment was performed at week 1, 3, 7 and 10 to investigate how microbial communities in lake sediments respond to different concentrations of PAC (RS (raw lake water with nothing added), Low, Medium and High). The results showed that, while PAC can efficiently decrease the amount of C, N and P in lake water, the presence of residual aluminum and aluminum precipitates can greatly affect the microbial communities in lake sediments.

Methods: Among 200,629 UK Biobank (UKBB) participants with whole-exome sequencing, CH was identified in a nested case-control study of 832 incident lung cancer cases and 3,951 controls (2006-2019) matched on age and year at blood draw, sex, race, and smoking status. A similar nested case-control study (141 cases/652 controls) was conducted among 27,975 participants with whole-exome sequencing in the Mass General Brigham Biobank (MGBB, 2010-2021).
Although bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells (BMSCs) might have therapeutic potency in ischemic stroke, the benefits are limited. The current study investigated the effects of BMSCs engineered to overexpress vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) on behavioral defects in a rat model of transient cerebral ischemia, which was induced by middle cerebral artery occlusion. VEGF-BMSCs or control grafts were injected into the left striatum of the infarcted hemisphere 24 hours after stroke.

Vitamin D is a fat-soluble vitamin, which is known for its classical pleiotropic effect. Recent studies have found that vitamin D, after catalyzed into its biologically active form [1,25(OH) 2D], correlated with its receptor, vitamin D receptor, plays a vital role in multiple pathophysiological processes, including immune-related dermatoses.

Although ALL complete remission (CR) rate has increased to 85-90% after induction chemotherapy, 40-50% of patients eventually relapsed. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the outcomes of ALL via accurate diagnosis and individualized treatments, which benefits in part from molecular biomarkers.

Our study demonstrated that HaNAC3 increased the tolerance of transgenic tobacco to abiotic stress and was involved in the regulation of a range of downstream genes and metabolic pathways. This also indicates the potential application of HaNAC3 as a plant tolerance gene.
