Database of lower limb kinematics and electromyography during gait-related activities in able-bodied subjects.

This data descriptor describes the Roessingh Research & Development-MyLeg database for activity prediction (MyPredict), containing three data sets. These data sets contain data from 55 able-bodied subjects, mean age 24 ± 2 years, measured in 85 measurement sessions. Measurement sessions consisted of trials containing sitting, standing, overground walking, stair ascent, stair descent, ramp ascent, ramp descent, walking on uneven terrain and walking in simulated confined spaces.

Multi-Day EMG-Based Knee Joint Torque Estimation Using Hybrid Neuromusculoskeletal Modelling and Convolutional Neural Networks.

Proportional control using surface electromyography (EMG) enables more intuitive control of a transfemoral prosthesis. However, EMG is a noisy signal which can vary over time, giving rise to the question what approach for knee torque estimation is most suitable for multi-day control. In this study we compared three different modelling frameworks to estimate knee torque in non-weight-bearing situations.

Indications and clinical outcome in pediatric tracheostomy: Lessons learned.

Objective: Indications for tracheostomy have changed over the last decades and clinical outcome varies depending on the indication for tracheostomy. By gaining more insight in the characteristics and outcome of the tracheostomized pediatric population, clinical care can be improved and a better individual prognosis can be given. Therefore, we studied the outcome of our pediatric tracheostomy population in relation to the primary indication over the last 16 years.

Prothrombin Complex Concentrate for Major Bleeding on Factor Xa Inhibitors: A Prospective Cohort Study.

Oral factor Xa inhibitors are increasingly used for anticoagulation, but there is no approved reversal agent. Prothrombin complex concentrate (PCC) for the management of Xa-inhibitor-associated bleeding has been described in small case series and one cohort study. Patients on apixaban or rivaroxaban, suffering a major bleed, were treated at nine Canadian hospitals as per existing hospital protocol with a fixed dose of PCC 2,000 units and subsequently recruited for a 30-day follow-up.

Reversal of dabigatran-associated major bleeding with activated prothrombin concentrate: A prospective cohort study.

The reversal of dabigatran-associated major bleeding can now be achieved with the antidote idarucizumab. We evaluated activated prothrombin complex concentrate (aPCC) as an alternative for this purpose. Patients treated with dabigatran and suffering a major bleed were treated as per existing hospital protocol with aPCC.

Recurrent venous thromboembolism in anticoagulated patients with cancer: management and short-term prognosis.

Background: Recommendations for management of cancer-related venous thromboembolism (VTE) in patients already receiving anticoagulant therapy are based on low-quality evidence. This international registry sought to provide more information on outcomes after a breakthrough VTE in relation to anticoagulation strategies.

Methods: Patients with cancer and VTE despite anticoagulant therapy were reported to the registry.

Clinical factors influencing normalization of prothrombin time after stopping warfarin: a retrospective cohort study.

Background: Anticoagulation with warfarin should be stopped 4-6 days before invasive procedures to avoid bleeding complications. Despite this routine, some patients still have high International Normalized Ratio (INR) values on the day of surgery and the procedure may be cancelled. We sought to identify easily available clinical characteristics that may influence the rate of normalization of prothrombin time when warfarin is stopped before surgery or invasive procedures.

Clinical factors influencing the sensitivity to warfarin when restarted after surgery.

Background And Objective: Resumption of oral anticoagulation after surgery may result in a different maintenance dose of warfarin than before the procedure. Knowledge of the clinical determinants of postoperative response could help avoid excessive anticoagulation in sensitive patients or avoid extended delays in achieving a therapeutic level in resistant patients.

Brief communication: Preoperative anticoagulant activity after bridging low-molecular-weight heparin for temporary interruption of warfarin.

Background: Preoperative low-molecular-weight heparin (LMWH) is often used when warfarin therapy is interrupted for surgery.

Objective: To determine the preoperative anticoagulant activity of LMWH following a standardized "bridging" regimen.
