Article Synopsis
  • There is a lack of research on eating disorders among rowers internationally and no studies in Hungary, particularly in weight-related sports like rowing.
  • A quantitative study in summer 2023 assessed eating disorders among 222 certified competitive rowers using a validated questionnaire, revealing that lightweight rowers had higher scores in perfectionism and interoceptive awareness.
  • The findings indicated that eating disorders in rowers are not more prevalent than in the general population, but emphasize the need for ongoing research and educational efforts due to the inherent risks in weight-related sports.

The reemergence of primitive reflexes (PRs) in older age is related to cognitive impairment. Currently, there are no means to prevent or slow their reappearance, but research evidence exists for their control in children. Therefore, this experiment investigated whether a 16-week special sensorimotor exercise program could benefit older adults and whether the intervention-induced changes (if any) may be associated with various indices of mental health.

Anthropometric and physiological characteristics are often considered as potential variables that are significantly related with motor performance. The aim of this study was to identify and weigh the key anthropometric and physiological characteristics that are associated with 2000-m rowing ergometer performance in male and female athletes. The study involved 70 best female and 130 best male rowers from the seven largest Hungarian rowing clubs, classified into one of the following age categories: juniors (36 women and 55 men, age range: 15-16 years), older juniors (26 women and 52 men, age range: 17-18 years), and seniors (8 women and 23 men, age range: over 18 years).

Recently, environmentally friendly crop improvements using next-generation plant biostimulants (PBs) come to the forefront in agriculture, regardless of whether they are used by scientists, farmers, or industries. Various organic and inorganic solutions have been investigated by researchers and producers, focusing on tolerance to abiotic and biotic stresses, crop quality, or nutritional deficiency. Garlic has been considered a universal remedy ever since antiquity.

Article Synopsis
  • - Recent climate change has heightened the need for plants to cope with various stressors, and defense mechanisms like PAMP-triggered Immunity (PTI) play a vital role in this process.
  • - A study evaluated the effects of a plant conditioner, ELICE16INDURES®, on soybeans in Northern Hungary, identifying its ability to enhance plant immunity without harmful pathogens, with treatments applied at different times and concentrations.
  • - Findings revealed that treatment significantly boosted the expression of genes related to immunity and other biological pathways, indicating increased production of important compounds like jasmonic acid and salicylic acid, which enhance the plant's stress response.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explored the differences in physical and physiological traits between male and female Hungarian rowers across three age categories: juniors (15-16 years), older juniors (17-18 years), and seniors (19-22 years).
  • In all age groups, females showed higher body fat percentages, while males had greater measures in body mass, height, and muscle mass.
  • The research indicated that sexual dimorphism increases with age, suggesting that training strategies should be tailored to suit the varying needs of different age and gender groups in rowing.

Background: High school education took place in the form of distance learning during SARS-CoV-2 pandemic worldwide, including Hungary. Decreased physical activity and an increase in inactive behaviours may lead to an increased risk of obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease.

Aim: Our study targeted changes in physical activity (aerobic exercise, muscle strengthening) and screen time in adolescents and young adults during the pandemic.

Little is known about the anthropometric and physiological profiles of lower-ranking athletes who aspire to rise to the pinnacle of their profession. The aim of this study was to create anthropometric and physiological profiles of Hungarian male rowers of different age categories (15-16, 17-18, and over 18 years), sports rankings and career lengths. Anthropometric and physiological profiles were created for 55 juniors, 52 older juniors and 23 seniors representing seven of the largest Hungarian rowing clubs.
