Malnutrition is one of the major factors of bone and cartilage disorders. Pacific cod () processing waste is a cheap and highly promising source of bioactive substances, including collagen-derived peptides and amino acids, for bone and cartilage structure stabilization. The addition of these substances to a functional drink is one of the ways to achieve their fast intestinal absorption.

The Atlantic cod () and red king crab () processing wastes are massive and unutilized in the Murmansk region of Russia. The samples of skin-containing waste of Atlantic cod fillets production were hydrolyzed using enzyme preparations derived from red king crab hepatopancreases, porcine pancreases, and bacteria. The activity of enzymes from crab hepatopancreases was significantly higher than the activity of enzymes derived from other sources.

Waste from fish cutting (heads, swim bladders, fins, skin, and bones) is a high-value technological raw material for obtaining substances and products with a wide range of properties. The possibility of using waste from cutting fish of the family: the Alaska pollock () and the Pacific cod (), processed in the coastal zone, is scientifically substantiated. In this work, a technology has been developed for processing accumulated waste from fish cutting in order to obtain fish gelatin, which is characterized by high protein content (more than 80.

Juvenile common carp were treated with Cd at a sublethal concentration for Cyprinidae (6.4 mg/L). The expression of N-methyl-D-aspartate receptor subunit genes (NR2A, NR2B) and ATP-binding cassette subfamily C member 1 gene (ABCC1) was compared between treated and untreated fish.

Testing for substance toxicity for living organisms is an important step in the development and adaptation of new drugs for various purposes. Analysis of the dependences between toxicological parameters of chemical substances for various test objects and physicochemical properties of these agents is a promising trend. Partition coefficient logP (logK) was chosen as the key physicochemical parameter determining the toxicological parameters of the same substance for hydrobionts at different developmental stages.

Muscle extracts of some fish species, i.e. pike (Esox lucius), sterlet (Acipenser ruthenus), pink salmon (Oncorhynchus gorbuscha) and, to a lesser extent, perch (Perca fluviatilis) and Russian sturgeon, (Acipenser gueldenstaedtii) prevent the development of premature senescence of the human embryonic fibroblasts induced by the sublethal concentration of H2O2.

We revealed empirical dependences between common logarithm of a ratio of rat oral LD to LC for adult fish and lgP for 50 different chemicals; and common logarithm of a ratio of the oral LD in rodents to LC for fish embryos and lgP for 30 different chemicals. The dependences were obtained by constructing a trend line between experimental points and calculation of Pearson's R correlation coefficient as a measure of regression significance. These dependences can show the influence of substance lipophilicity on its toxicity for aquatic organisms comparing to mammals.

Background: Vitellogenin (Vtg) is the major egg yolk protein (YP) in most oviparous species and may be useful as an indicator in ecotoxicological testing at the biochemical level. In this study, we obtained detailed information about the Vtgs of Danio rerio embryos by cutting SDS-PAGE gel lanes into thin slices, and analyzing them slice-by-slice with (MALDI-TOF) mass spectrometry.

Results: We conducted three proteomic analyses, comparing embryonic Danio rerio Vtg cleavage products after exposure for 48 h to CdSecore/ZnSshell quantum dots (QDs), after exposure to a mixture of the components used for quantum dot synthesis (MCS-QDs), and in untreated embryos.

The researchers happen to face with suspensions in their chemical, biochemical and microbiological practice. The suspensions are the disperse systems with solid dispersed phase and liquid dispersion medium and with dispersed phase particle size > 100 nm (10-7 m). Quite often the necessity occurs to separate solid particles from liquid.

Neutrophylic phagocytosis is affected by a lot of factors, including phenylcarboxylic acids secreted by bacteria into blood to protect from phagocytosis. The paper describes the most likely mechanism of inhibiting action of these acids, which is associated with the formation of strong pi-complexes between the pi-bonds of the molecular benzene ring of the acids and pi-bonds of unsaturated fatty acid molecules of the neutrophilic membrane. This fact was used to calculate the minimum inhibitory concentration of an acid and to show that there may be saturation in inhibition from the concentration.

An X-ray diffractometer for industrial applications has been designed, installed at SPring-8 BL24XU and tested by measuring a standard Al(2)O(3) powder sample. The measurement results prove the high precision of the diffractometer. The diffractometer was also tested by conducting grazing-incidence X-ray diffraction measurements of ion-implanted chromium-coated steel.

Background: Tracer studies are an important tool to obtain information about the processes involved in the immunological response. Colloidal gold is widely used as a tracer, but its small size of label can cause some difficulty during low-resolution analysis. To overcome this difficulty, we developed a new method to follow the route of tracer movement within lymph nodes.
