Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates the potential of killer yeasts and their toxins as a biological method for treating leishmaniasis, a widespread parasitic disease.
  • Killer yeasts were isolated, and their toxins (K2 and K.L) showed significantly lower IC50 values against leishmaniasis-causing organisms compared to standard treatments like Glucantime and Amphotericin B.
  • The research concludes that K2 and K.L toxins possess strong antileishmanial properties, presenting a promising alternative for biological treatment of leishmaniasis.

In vitro cultures remain crucial for studying the fundamental mechanisms of human T-cell development. Here, we introduce a novel in vitro cultivation system based on ThymoSpheres (TS): dense spheroids consisting of DLL4-expressing stromal cells and human hematopoietic precursor cells, in the absence of thymic epithelial cells. These spheroids are subsequently cultured at the air-liquid interphase.

Introduction: Bullous pemphigoid (BP) is an autoimmune disease involving the sub-epidermal layer. Eosinophilia may play a role in the pathogenesis of BP.

Objectives: We aimed to investigate the correlation between dermal or peripheral eosinophilia with clinical presentations in patients with BP.

In this study, a novel fabrication process, to the best of our knowledge, was developed to fabricate a glass harmonic diffractive lens. In this process, a polymethylmethacrylate master of the diffractive lens was machined using single-point diamond turning. Then an electrolytic plating process was conducted to grow a reverse nickel (Ni) mold.

The aim of this study was to examine the impacts of corn zein edible film (Z) fortified with dill leaves extract (DE) and encapsulated dill essential oil with β-cyclodextrin (nDEO) on the quality of refrigerated common carp fillet. Gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC/MS) analysis showed that the most frequent substances of DEO were apiol (35.1%) and carvone (31.

Background: Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is a common parasitic disorder that is endemic in many countries. There is no completely effective treatment for this condition, but pentavalent antimony compounds are regarded as the main treatment. Different laser types have been used for treatment of CL with variable success but to our best knowledge, there is no published paper regarding use of intense pulsed light (IPL) for treatment of CL.

Background: London has outperformed smaller towns and rural areas in terms of life expectancy increase. Our aim was to investigate life expectancy change at very-small-area level, and its relationship with house prices and their change.

Methods: We performed a hyper-resolution spatiotemporal analysis from 2002 to 2019 for 4835 London Lower-layer Super Output Areas (LSOAs).

Purpose: Leishmaniasis is one of the most serious health problems in developing countries. Iran is one of the endemic regions of cutaneous leishmaniasis. Leishmania RNA virus (LRV) is a dsRNA virus member of the Totiviridae family, which was first detected in the promastigotes of Leishmania braziliensis guyanensis.

RNA viruses have short generation times and high mutation rates, allowing them to undergo rapid molecular evolution during epidemics. However, the extent of RNA virus phenotypic evolution within epidemics and the resulting effects on fitness and virulence remain mostly unknown. Here, we screened the 2015-2016 Zika epidemic in the Americas for lineage-specific fitness differences.

Benzene is a carcinogenic chemical substance which causes the injuries and damages through producing the free radicals in DNA (deoxyribonucleic acid) and the antioxidants are the agents which reduce the impacts of DNA damages by inhibiting the free radicals. This study was conducted aiming at determination of primary damages of DNA and level of plasma oxidative stress markers resulting from the respiratory exposure to the benzene found in petroleum compounds among the workers at loading platforms of a petroleum products distribution center. This study was an analytical (case control) research conducted among the workers in a working shift serving at the loading platforms of petroleum products.

Cutaneous leishmaniasis (CL) is endemic in many parts of the world with a high economic and health impact. Despite many treatments that have been suggested for this zoonotic infection, there is still no definite therapy for CL. Meglumine antimony compounds are considered as a standard treatment for leishmaniasis, however, these medications have a relatively high side effect profile and not always effective.

There is considerable debate about the sustainability of the hydraulic fracturing (HF) water cycle in North America. Recently, this debate has expanded to China, where HF activities continue to grow. Here, we provide a critical review of the HF water cycle in China, including water withdrawal practices and flowback and produced water (FPW) management and their environmental impacts, with a comprehensive comparison to the U.

Final design studies in preparation for manufacturing have been performed for functional components of the vacuum portion of the ITER Low-Field Side Reflectometer (LFSR). These components consist of an antenna array, electron cyclotron heating (ECH) protection mirrors, phase calibration mirrors, and vacuum windows. Evaluation of these components was conducted at the LFSR test facility and DIII-D.

We forecast 1,000,000 COVID-19 cases outside of China by March 31st, 2020 based on a heuristic and WHO situation reports. We do not model the COVID-19 pandemic; we model only the number of cases. The proposed heuristic is based on a simple observation that the plot of the given data is well approximated by an exponential curve.
