High Rates of ESBL-producing and Gentamycin-resistant Gram-negative Bacteria During the First Week of Life: A Multicenter Cross-sectional Study Among Infants Younger Than 2 Months With Urinary Tract Infection.

Introduction: Reducing the risk of renal scarring in infants with urinary tract infection (UTI) necessitates timely and effective administration of antimicrobial treatment. The Israeli Medical Association recommends the empirical use of gentamicin and ampicillin for febrile infants younger than 2 months with suspected UTI. We aimed to assess the prevalence of Extended Spectrum Beta-Lactamase (ESBL)-producing and gentamicin-resistant Gram-negative UTI among infants younger than 2 months.

Usefulness of thyroid function assessment in infants born to mothers with thyroid dysfunction during pregnancy.

Introduction: Maternal thyroid disease is considered as a risk factor for abnormal thyroid function at birth, as well as for long-term morbidity in offspring. The potential harmful effects on the neonate had led to the clinical practice of thyroid function assessment in infants born to mothers with thyroid disease during pregnancy. In this study, we evaluated the usefulness of routine thyroid function tests for every newborn of a mother with thyroid dysfunction.

COVID-19 in a Subset of Hospitalized Children in Israel.

Background: Most pediatric coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) is mild. We assessed nationally severe COVID-19, including pediatric inflammatory multisystem syndrome (PIMS), in hospitalized children.

Methods: An ongoing, prospective, national surveillance was conducted from March 2020 through March 2021, at 20 hospitals treating children <18 years across Israel (~75% of Israeli hospitals).
