Pomelo fruit juice and pomelo ethylacetate extract have been shown to increase the bioavailability of some CYP3A substrates. The purpose of this study was to investigate if this effect might be contributed to by changes in CYP3A and p-glycoprotein mRNAs levels in the liver and proximal small intestine. The ethyl acetate extract of pomelo mix was administered for 7 days to 10 rabbits.

The bioequivalence study of folifer-Z: a new formulation of sustained-release iron and zinc.

The bioequivalence of Folifer-Z tablets, a new sustained-release iron and zinc formulation was evaluated and compared to that of Fefol-Z capsules in 30 healthy male subjects. Bioavailability and pharmacokinetic properties of 2 sustained-release formulations of diclofenac sodium, Voltaren vs inflaban: effect of food on inflaban bioavailability.

In this study, in vitro characterization, bioavailability and pharmacokinetics of 2 different sustained-release diclofenac sodium dosage forms were compared, Voltaren (100 mg tablets), manufactured by Ciba-Geigy and Inflaban (100 mg enteric-coated tablets), manufactured by the Arab Pharmaceutical Manufacturing Company. The in vitro results demonstrated a faster rate of dissolution for Inflaban as compared to Voltaren, but both products exhibited a sustained-release pattern. The bioavailability study was conducted on 20 healthy male subjects who received a single oral dose (100 mg) of each product according to a randomized 2-way crossover design.

A bioequivalence study of two products of furosemide tablets.

Twenty healthy male volunteers participated in a balanced crossover comparison of diusemide versus lasix. Each treatment was given as a single 40 mg tablet following an overnight fast. Furosemide concentration in plasma were determined up to 8 h after treatment.

Nifedipine, a calcium channel blocker, is widely used in the management of hypertension, angina and cardiac arrhythmias. In this study, the bioequivalence of two pharmaceutical formulations of nifedipine, Nifecard (10 mg capsules) manufactured by Dar Al-Dawa Development and Investment Co, Ltd. and Adalat (10 mg capsules) manufactured by Bayer Pharmaceutical Company, was assessed in twelve healthy male subjects.

Prolactin messenger ribonucleic acid concentrations in 4-day cycling rats and during the prolactin surge.

Pituitary PRL mRNA concentrations were measured during the 4-day rat estrous cycle. Adult female Sprague-Dawley rats were killed at 3-h intervals throughout the cycle and hourly between 1000 and 2400 h on proestrus (n = 5-12). Serum PRL was increased on the afternoons of proestrus (P) and estrus (E), with peak concentrations at 1700 h (P, 624 +/- 126; E, 261 +/- 107 ng/ml).

LH subunit mRNA concentrations during LH surge in ovariectomized estradiol-replaced rats.

In cycling rats, pituitary concentrations of luteinizing hormone (LH) beta-subunit mRNA increase two- to threefold before the afternoon proestrus LH surge without a corresponding increase in alpha-subunit mRNA. Estradiol (E2) treatment is known to allow expression of daily LH surges in ovariectomized (OVX) rats, and the timing, magnitude, and duration of LH secretion is similar to the LH surge on proestrus. The present study was conducted to examine whether the regulation of LH subunit mRNAs during the LH surge in OVX-E2-treated rats is similar to that present on proestrus.

The frequency of gonadotropin-releasing hormone secretion regulates expression of alpha and luteinizing hormone beta-subunit messenger ribonucleic acids in male rats.

The influence of GnRH pulse frequency on LH subunit mRNA concentrations was examined in castrate, testosterone-replaced male rats. GnRH pulses (25 ng/pulse) or saline to controls, were given via a carotid cannula at intervals of 7.5-240 min for 48 h.

Alpha and luteinizing hormone beta subunit messenger ribonucleic acids during the rat estrous cycle.

Alpha and LH beta subunit mRNAs were measured in pituitaries of 4-day cycling rats during the estrous cycle. A two-fold increase in alpha mRNA occurred between 0800-2000 h on diestrus, but alpha mRNA concentrations were stable during other days of the cycle. LH beta mRNA concentrations were low during estrus and metestrus (11-16 pg cDNA bound/100 micrograms pituitary DNA), but were elevated (27-30 pg) between 0800-2000 h on diestrus.

Alpha and luteinizing hormone beta messenger ribonucleic acid (RNA) of male and female rats after castration: quantitation using an optimized RNA dot blot hybridization assay.

In this study we examined the changes in alpha and LH beta mRNAs in anterior pituitaries of male and female rats after castration. mRNA concentrations were measured by an optimized RNA dot blot hybridization assay. Rat alpha and LH beta cDNAs were nick-translated to specific activities of 2-5 X 10(8) cpm/micrograms and were used as hybridization probes.

Gonadotropin-releasing hormone differentially regulates expression of the genes for luteinizing hormone alpha and beta subunits in male rats.

Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) and gonadal steroids regulate synthesis and release of luteinizing hormone (LH). GnRH is secreted intermittently by the hypothalamus, producing pulsatile LH release, and a pulsatile GnRH stimulus is required to maintain LH secretion. We report the regulatory effects of GnRH pulse injections on pituitary concentrations of LH alpha and beta subunit mRNAs in a castrated/testosterone-replaced male rat model.
