Rationale: This study aims to present a novel surgical approach for the resection of anterior mediastinal tumors, specifically focusing on micronodular thymoma with lymphoid stroma (MNT), a rare and distinct variant of thymoma. The single subxiphoid incision technique, although reported in limited cases, offers a minimally invasive option with potential benefits. We report the case of a 76-year-old male who underwent this innovative procedure and was diagnosed with MNT, providing insight into the management and outcomes of this rare pathology.

Rationale: Scapular prolapse is a rare complication of thoracotomy. Only a few cases of scapular prolapse after thoracotomy have been reported. Here, we report the case of a 52-year-old male patient who underwent standard posterior thoracotomy for lung sarcomatoid carcinoma invading the left upper chest wall.

Background: The common causes of adrenocorticotrophic hormone (ACTH)-dependent Cushing's syndrome (CS) include Cushing's disease (CD) and ectopic ACTH syndrome (EAS). The differential diagnosis and lesion location of CD and EAS often bring great difficulties to clinical diagnosis and treatment. This article reports the localization diagnosis, treatment, and follow-up results of two patients with ACTH-dependent CS with different causes and reviews the literature.

Lateral flow immunoassay (LFA) detection of cryptococcal capsular polysaccharide antigen (CrAg) is reported to be the most rapid and convenient laboratory method for diagnosing cryptococcosis. Its clinical diagnostic use, however, is not well studied. We retrospectively analyzed the data from 97 patients with suspected pulmonary cryptococcosis (PC) at 2 tertiary care centers.

Blocking angiogenesis can inhibit tumor growth and metastasis. However, the mechanism underlying regulation of lung cancer angiogenesis remains unclear. The gap junction protein connexin 43 (Cx43) is implicated in angiogenesis.

Background: Airborne fine particulate matter (PM2.5) has been associated with lung cancer development and progression in never smokers. However, the molecular mechanisms underlying PM2.

Connexins (Cxs) play key roles in cellular communication. By facilitating metabolite exchange or interfering with distinct signaling pathways, Cxs affect cell homeostasis, proliferation, and differentiation. Variations in the activity and expression of Cxs have been linked to numerous clinical conditions including carcinomas, cardiac disorders, and wound healing.

Background: Ectopic Cushing syndrome (ECS) is a sporadic condition. Even uncommon is an ECS that derives from a carcinoid tumor of the thymus. These tumors may pose several diagnostic and therapeutic conundrums.

Connexins (Cx) form gap junctions (GJ) and allow for intercellular communication. However, these proteins also modulate gene expression, growth, and cell migration. The downregulation of Cx43 impairs endothelial cell migration and angiogenetic potential.

Introduction: Extranodal natural killer/T-cell lymphoma (ENKTL) - nasal type is an aggressive form of malignant non-Hodgkin lymphoma with a very poor prognosis. Especially primary pulmonary ENKTL is a relatively rare form of non-Hodgkin lymphoma. Until now, the prevalence of primary pulmonary ENKTL is unknown.

Background: Increasing evidences have underlined the importance of long non-coding RNAs (lncRNAs) in human malignancies. LINC00958 has been found involved in some cancers. However, the underlying mechanical performance of LINC00958 in lung adenocarcinoma (LAD) has not been explored yet.

The majority of adult primary tracheal tumors are malignant; however, as one type of benign tumors, lipoma is extremely uncommon.  We report a case where lipoma was first misdiagnosed as bronchial asthma, followed by sudden aggravation of dyspnea after trauma, and computed tomography (CT) examination of the neck and chest confirmed a tracheal tumor. Through multiple bronchoscopy interventions and placements of a tracheal stent, little therapeutic benefit was discovered, and resection of the tracheal tumor combined with tracheal end-to-end anastomosis was performed to ultimately achieve a cure.

Background: Thoracic anastomotic fistula (TAF) is a severe postoperative complication of oesophagectomy, and its occurrence coupled with a thoracic gastrocutaneous fistula (TGCF) and tracheostenosis is very unusual and may lead to a fatal consequence.

Case Presentation: We describe a case of an old female diagnosed with mid-oesophageal carcinoma, who presented with a TAF after oesophagectomy, which was healed by an effective treatment, while a severe TGCF and tracheostenosis appeared one month postoperation. The complications were detected by gastroscopy, barium oesophagogram and thoracic computed tomography (CT).

The vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) phenotypic switch is considered to be the key pathophysiological change in various cardiovascular diseases, such as aortic dissection, atherosclerosis, and hypertension. The results in this study showed that TGF-β1 promotes the proliferation, migration and morphological changes of VSMC.TGF-β1 promoted the expressions of PI3K, P-PI3K, AKT, P-AKT, ID2, and OPN protein and suppressed the expressions of α-SMA and SM22α protein; the opposite results were observed for TGF-β1 inhibitor group, AKT inhibitor group and Combined inhibitors group.
