To date, a limited number of studies have assessed the impact of individual and combined PM components on mumps incidence. Between 2013 and 2019, we collected data on 6,270 mumps cases in Lanzhou, along with corresponding PM and its components, to analyze their temporal and spatial distributions. A generalized additive mixture model was constructed to examine the association between PM components and mumps incidence.

In recent years, solar-driven photothermal water evaporation technology for seawater desalination and wastewater treatment has developed rapidly, which is of great significance for addressing the issue of freshwater scarcity. However, due to the high costs associated with the manufacturing, maintenance, and operation of such devices, their application remains challenging in remote and resource-scarce regions. Due to its excellent light absorption capability in the near-infrared region, high hydrophilicity, and stable chemical properties, coupled with the low cost of recycling waste carbonized polyphenylene sulfide, this material is an excellent choice as a photothermal material for solar-driven water evaporation devices.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates whether phthalates and their alternatives are linked to the occurrence of gallstones, involving 1,735 NHANES participants.
  • Individual associations of specific phthalate metabolites (MCOCHP and MHNCH) were found to have a positive correlation with gallstones, particularly in older adults, men, and those with certain health conditions.
  • Findings indicate that both traditional phthalates and their alternatives elevate the risk of gallstones, with alternatives posing a greater risk, especially among vulnerable populations like the elderly and those with obesity, hypertension, or diabetes.

Recently, water resources have become scarce due to the growing global population and human impact on the environment, coupled with the effects of climate change. For solving the problem of global freshwater shortage and increasing the value of discarded polyphenylene sulfide (PPS) filter bags, in this study, balsa wood was used as the base of a photothermal solar evaporator, chitosan solution was used as the binder, and the main photothermal conversion materials used were polyphenylene sulfide (CP) carbide and copper sulfide. In order to create synergistic photothermal conversion materials, freeze-drying and precipitation were used to deposit the photothermal conversion materials on top of the balsa wood.

Disturbances in the enterohepatic circulation are important biological mechanisms for causing gallstones and also have important effects on the metabolism of Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS). Moreover, PFAS is associated with sex hormone disorder which is another important cause of gallstones. However, it remains unclear whether PFAS is associated with gallstones.

Article Synopsis
  • The study addresses the high incidence of major adverse cardiovascular events (MACEs) in patients with acute myocardial infarction (AMI) after percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) and highlights the absence of early prediction models.
  • The research developed and compared four machine learning models (ANN, k-nearest neighbors, support vector machine, and random forest) against a traditional logistic regression model using data from 1,531 AMI patients who underwent PCI.
  • Results showed that the artificial neural network (ANN) model had the highest predictive accuracy for MACEs, suggesting that machine learning could enhance patient management and outcomes in clinical settings.

Aim: To develop a logistic regression model, artificial neural network (ANN) model and decision tree (DT) model for the progression of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) to Alzheimer's disease (AD) to compare the performance of the three models.

Methods: A total of 425 patients with MCI were screened from the original cohort. The actual follow up included 361 patients, with AD as the outcome variable.
