According to active aging theory, self-management plays a pivotal role for well-being of older adults as they navigate the aging process. The current quasi-experimental study, employing a between-within design, examines the impact of guided group physical training on changes in self-management and its subsequent effect on quality of life among a sample of independently living old adults. Here we propose a not pupil-dependent microsaccades tracking technique and a novel detection method. We present a proof of concept for detecting microsaccades using a non-contact laser-based photonic system recording and processing the temporal changes of speckle patterns scattered from an eye sclera. The data, simultaneously recorded by the speckle-based tracker (SBT) and the video-based eye tracker (Eyelink), was analyzed by the frequently used detection method of Engbert and Kliegl (E&K) and by advanced machine learning detection (MLD) techniques.

Parkinson's disease (PD) exacts a physical and emotional toll on both patients and family. The aim of this study was to compare patient and caregiver perceptions of the social consequences of basic symptoms of PD and levodopa-induced dyskinesias. Forty patients with PD and dyskinesias and 35 of their caregivers completed a self-report questionnaire on the impact of PD and dyskinesias on their feelings of security and embarrassment and participation in family/social events, and indicated their preference for the "on" (with dyskinesias) or the "off" (without dyskinesias) state.

Any of seven lysine residues on ubiquitin can serve as the base for chain-extension, resulting in a sizeable spectrum of ubiquitin modifications differing in chain length or linkage type.
