Previously untreated patients with AML in CR after induction chemotherapy with daunorubicin and cytarabine were randomized between two intensive courses of consolidation therapy containing high-dose cytarabine, combined with amsacrine or daunorubicin and a standard consolidation and maintenance therapy containing standard dose cytarabine and daunorubicin. Setting: In this prospective, multicenter study, all patients granted or refused admission to 26 ICUs affiliated with the French Society for Critical Care were included during a 1-month period. Characteristics of participating ICUs and patients, circumstances of triage, and description of the triage decision with particular attention to compliance with published recommendations were recorded.

Characterization of symptoms that reflect anxiety and depression in family members visiting intensive care patients should be of major relevance to the ethics of involving family members in decision-making, particularly about end-of-life issues.

We report a series of 31 cases of splenic marginal zone lymphomas with an enlarged spleen and a multimicronodular macroscopic pattern. Two groups, A and B, were distinguished based on the presence (A) or absence (B) of a lymphoplasmacytic component with monoclonal immunoglobulin expression in the cytoplasm. There were no differences between the groups as far as age, sex, spleen weight, and progression.

Pentostatin was administered at a dosage of 4 mg/m2 every week for the first 3 weeks, then every 14 days, followed by maintenance therapy of 4 mg/m2 monthly for a maximum of 6 months. We have previously reported the results in T- and B-cell prolymphocytic leukemia, B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia, and hairy cell leukemia This report focuses on the outcome in T-cell malignancies: T-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia, Sézary syndrome, mycosis fungoides, and T-zone lymphoma.
