One of the growing challenges to public health and clinical outcomes is the emergence of cognitive impairments, particularly depressive symptom severity, because of chronic elevations in metabolic disease and cerebrovascular disease risk. To more clearly delineate these relationships and to assess the potential for sexual dimorphism, we used lean (LZR) and obese Zucker rats (OZR) of increasing age to determine relationships between internal carotid artery (ICA) hemodynamics, cerebral vasculopathies, and the emergence of depressive symptoms. Male OZR exhibited progressive elevations in perfusion pressure within the ICA, which were paralleled by endothelial dysfunction, increased cerebral arterial myogenic activation, and reduced cerebral cortex microvessel density.

Objective: To estimate the incremental cost-utility ratio (ICUR) of isolated and combined targeted therapy regimens compared to dacarbazine for first-line treatment of advanced and metastatic melanoma with BRAF V600 mutation.
Methods: A Markov model with three health states (no progression, progression and death), monthly duration cycle and 10-year time horizon was constructed to compare targeted therapy regimens (vemurafenib, dabrafenib, vemurafenib/cobimetinib and dabrafenib/trametinib) with dacarbazine chemotherapy under the Brazilian public health perspective. One-way and probabilistic sensitivity analyses were performed.

Kidney disease, a common complication of diabetes, associates with poor prognosis. A review of studies comparing the WISC-III to other measures of intelligence and achievement indicates the revision is continuing to meet the standards established by its predecessor, the WISC-R. Correlations are substantial, both for measures of ability and achievement; however, compared to the WISC-R, the WISC-III Full Scale IQ tends to be about six points lower, probably reflecting the "Flynn effect" (1984). As a consequence, eligibility for programs in special education may be negatively affected.

Here, we study the influence of stimulus characteristics and algorithm of testing and estimating threshold on cool (CDT), warm (WDT), and heat-pain (HPDT) detection thresholds. We show that continuously decreasing (for CDT) or increasing (for WDT) thermode temperature to the point at which cooling or warming is perceived and signaled by depressing a response key ("appearance" threshold) overestimates threshold with rapid rates of thermal change.
