Emerging miniaturized atomic sensors such as optically pumped magnetometers (OPMs) have attracted widespread interest due to their application in high-spatial-resolution biomagnetism imaging. While optical probing systems in conventional OPMs require bulk optical devices including linear polarizers and lenses for polarization conversion and wavefront shaping, which are challenging for chip-scale integration. In this study, an integrated optical probing scheme based on localized-interference metasurface for chip-scale OPM is developed.

Chinese rice wine (CRW) is an alcoholic beverage made mainly from rice or grain through saccharification and fermentation with Jiuqu (starter). Jiuqu makes an important contribution to the formation of the flavor characteristics of rice wine. Hongqu and Maiqu are two kinds of Jiuqu commonly used in CRW brewing.

(starter) makes an important contribution to the formation of the flavor characteristics of rice wine (HQW). Qu (GTQ) and Qu (WYQ) are two kinds of commonly used in HQW brewing, but the comparison of the two kinds of HQW is still insufficient at present. The objective of this study was to compare the dynamic changes of amino acids (AAs), higher alcohols (HAs), bioamines (BAs), volatile flavor compounds (VFCs), and microbial communities in HQW fermentation, with GTQ and WYQ as starter.

, used in East Asia for its health benefits, contains ganoderic acids (GA) which have various pharmacological activities but are limited by poor water solubility and low oral bioaccessibility. This study synthesized and characterized ganoderic acids loaded zein-chitosan nanoparticles (GA-NPs), and investigated its advantages in alleviating alcoholic liver injury (ALI) in mice model. The GA-NPs demonstrated high encapsulation efficiency (92.

Rice wine is primarily crafted from grains through saccharification and liquification with the help of Qu. Qu plays an important role in the formation of the flavor quality of rice wine. Hongqu and Xiaoqu represent two prevalent varieties of Qu that are typically utilized in the brewing process of rice wine and play a crucial role in its production.

The emergence of biomagnetism imaging has led to the development of ultrasensitive and compact spin-exchange relaxation-free (SERF) atomic magnetometers that promise high-resolution magnetocardiography (MCG) and magnetoencephalography (MEG). However, conventional optical components are not compatible with nanofabrication processes that enable the integration of atomic magnetometers on chips, especially for elliptically polarized laser-pumped SERF magnetometers with bulky optical systems. In this study, an elliptical-polarization pumping beam (at 795 nm) is achieved through a single-piece metasurface, which results in an SERF magnetometer with a high sensitivity reaching 10.

High-performance atomic magnetometers (AMs) rely on the measurement of optical rotation, which requires a set of bulky polarization optics that limit their applications in scenarios where portability and compactness are necessary. In this study, a miniaturized AM is constructed based on a cubic Rb vapor cell and monolithic metalens, which provides an integrated scheme to achieve optical rotation detection induced by the circular birefringence of polarized atoms. The designed metalens achieves polarization splitting with deflection angles of ±10 and focusing with efficiencies of approximately 30% for orthogonal linear polarizations.

Article Synopsis
  • The study examines the differences in volatile compounds and microbial communities between two types of Chinese rice wine: Gutian (GT) and Wuyi (WY), revealing distinct flavor profiles.
  • Key volatile components like 3-methylbutan-1-ol and ethyl acetate were identified, with specific microbes enriched in each type, affecting their unique flavors.
  • The research also found higher enzyme gene abundances in WY, explaining its richer flavor and providing insights for enhancing rice wine production sustainably.

Hongqu rice wine, a famous traditional fermented alcoholic beverage, is brewed with traditional Hongqu (mainly including Gutian Qu and Wuyi Qu). This study aimed to compare the microbial communities and metabolic profiles in the traditional brewing of Hongqu rice wines fermented with Gutian Qu and Wuyi Qu. Compared with Hongqu rice wine fermented with Wuyi Qu (WY), Hongqu rice wine fermented with Gutian Qu (GT) exhibited higher levels of biogenic amines.

As one of the typical representatives of Chinese rice wine (), rice wine is produced with glutinous rice as the main raw material and as the fermentation starter. The complex microbial flora in the brewing process may have a great influence on the formation of the flavor quality and drinking safety of rice wine. Previous studies have shown that high biogenic amine (BA) content in rice wine has potential physiological toxicity and has become a bottleneck problem restricting the development of the rice wine industry.

Recent years have seen rapid development of chip-scale atomic devices due to their great potential in the field of biomedical imaging, namely chip-scale atomic magnetometers that enable high resolution magnetocardiography (MCG) and magnetoencephalography (MEG). For atomic devices of this kind, vertical cavity surface emitting lasers (VCSELs) have become the most crucial components as integrated pumping sources, which are attracting growing interest. In this paper, the application of VCSELs in chip-scale atomic devices are reviewed, where VCSELs are integrated in various atomic bio-sensing devices with different operating environments.
