A Novel Potential Positron Emission Tomography Imaging Agent for Vesicular Monoamine Transporter Type 2.

In the early 1990s, 9-(+)-11C-dihydrotetrabenazine (9-(+)-11C-DTBZ) was shown to be a useful positron emission tomography (PET) imaging agent for various neurodegenerative disorders. Here, we described the radiosynthesis and evaluation of the 9-(+)-11C-DTBZ analog, 10-(+)-11C-DTBZ, as a vesicular monoamine transporter 2 (VMAT2) imaging agent and compare it with 9-(+)-11C-DTBZ. 10-(+)-11C-DTBZ was obtained by 11C-MeI methylation with its 10 hydroxy precursor in the presence of 5 M NaOH.

Combination of calcipotriol and methotrexate in nanostructured lipid carriers for topical delivery.

The combination of calcipotriol with methotrexate can strengthen the topical therapy for psoriasis. The aim of the present study was to evaluate the potential of nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs) loaded with lipophilic calcipotriol and hydrophilic methotrexate as topical therapy. NLCs composed of Precirol ATO 5 with various amounts of squalene as the liquid lipid were prepared.

Effects of lipophilic emulsifiers on the oral administration of lovastatin from nanostructured lipid carriers: physicochemical characterization and pharmacokinetics.

Nanostructured lipid carriers (NLCs) made from mixtures of Precirol and squalene were prepared to investigate whether the bioavailability of lovastatin can be improved by oral delivery. The size, zeta potential, drug-loading capacity, and release properties of the NLCs were compared with those of lipid nanoparticles containing pure Precirol (solid lipid nanoparticles, SLNs) and squalene (lipid emulsions, LEs). Stable nanoparticles with a mean size range of 180-290 nm and zeta potential range of -3 to -35 mV were developed.

Intravesical drug delivery into the bladder to treat cancers.

The standard treatment for patients with bladder cancer is surgical transurethral resection (TUR). Intravesical chemotherapy and immunotherapy are widely used after TUR to prevent recurrence and progression of superficial disease. There are many drug therapies for bladder cancer via intravesical instillation.

Biological and pharmacological activities of squalene and related compounds: potential uses in cosmetic dermatology.

Squalene is a triterpene that is an intermediate in the cholesterol biosynthesis pathway. It was so named because of its occurrence in shark liver oil, which contains large quantities and is considered its richest source. However, it is widely distributed in nature, with reasonable amounts found in olive oil, palm oil, wheat-germ oil, amaranth oil, and rice bran oil.

In vitro and in vivo evaluation of topical delivery and potential dermal use of soy isoflavones genistein and daidzein.

Genistein, daidzein, and glycitein are soy isoflavones. These compounds can be used to protect the skin from oxidative stress induced by UVB radiation. To this end, the feasibility of skin absorption of soy isoflavones was evaluated in the present study.

Development and evaluation of lipid nanoparticles for camptothecin delivery: a comparison of solid lipid nanoparticles, nanostructured lipid carriers, and lipid emulsion.

Aim: Camptothecin is an anticancer drug that acts against a broad spectrum of tumors. The clinical application of camptothecin is limited by its insolubility, instability, and toxicity problems. The aim of this study was to develop and characterize lipid nanoparticles with different lipid cores which can circumvent these problems.

Delivery of resveratrol, a red wine polyphenol, from solutions and hydrogels via the skin.

Resveratrol, the main active polyphenol in red wine, has been demonstrated to show benefits against skin disorders. The bioavailability of orally administered resveratrol is insufficient to permit high enough drug concentrations for systemic therapy. In this study, we examined the feasibility of the topical/transdermal delivery of resveratrol.
