Recently, investigations of cfDNA as a reliable early detection bioassay have presented a powerful opportunity for detecting dense tissue screening complications early.

Patients with ferromagnetic cardiac devices, particularly cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIED) such as pacemakers or implantable cardioverter defibrillators, are often inappropriately deprived of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for safety reasons. This consensus document is written by a multidisciplinary working group involving rhythmologists, interventional cardiologists, echocardiographists and radiologists. Its objective is to establish good practice recommendations to optimize the management of patients with cardiac devices requiring MRI examination, while ensuring their safety and facilitating their access to MRI.

Sensor systems (SS) were developed over the last few decades to help dairy farmers manage their herds. Such systems can provide both data and alerts to several productive, behavioral, and physiological indicators on individual cows. Currently, there is still a lack of knowledge on both the proportion of dairy farms that invested in SS and type of SS installed.

An insight into the dairy chain of a Protected Designation of Origin cheese: The case study of Asiago cheese.

The Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) label of the European Union safeguards and guarantees top-quality traditional agri-food products that must be manufactured in a specific region according to traditional production methods. Production specifications of PDO cheeses are often focused on the cheese-making process and lack information on the dairy farming system that is upstream of the chain. This case study aimed to analyze and cluster the dairy farms that supply milk to the chain of Asiago, an internationally known PDO cheese of northeastern Italy.

About the existence of common determinants of gene expression in the porcine liver and skeletal muscle.

Background: The comparison of expression QTL (eQTL) maps obtained in different tissues is an essential step to understand how gene expression is genetically regulated in a context-dependent manner. In the current work, we have compared the transcriptomic and eQTL profiles of two porcine tissues (skeletal muscle and liver) which typically show highly divergent expression profiles, in 103 Duroc pigs genotyped with the Porcine SNP60 BeadChip (Illumina) and with available microarray-based measurements of hepatic and muscle mRNA levels. Since structural variation could have effects on gene expression, we have also investigated the co-localization of cis-eQTLs with copy number variant regions (CNVR) segregating in this Duroc population.

Invited review: β-hydroxybutyrate concentration in blood and milk and its associations with cow performance.

Hyperketonemia (HYK) is one of the most frequent and costly metabolic disorders in high-producing dairy cows and its diagnosis is based on β-hydroxybutyrate (BHB) concentration in blood. In the last 10 years, the number of papers that have dealt with the impact of elevated BHB levels in dairy cattle has increased. Therefore, this paper reviewed the recent literature on BHB concentration in blood and milk, and its relationships with dairy cow health and performance, and farm profitability.

Invited review: Use of infrared technologies for the assessment of dairy products-Applications and perspectives.

Dairy products are important sources of nutrients for human health and in recent years their consumption has increased worldwide. Therefore, the food industry is interested in applying analytical technologies that are more rapid and cost-effective than traditional laboratory analyses. Infrared spectroscopy accomplishes both criteria, making real-time determination feasible.

Mineral composition of cow milk from multibreed herds.

This study estimated the effect of Holstein-Friesian, Brown Swiss, Jersey, Simmental and Alpine Grey cattle breeds on milk mineral contents (Ca, Mg, P, K, and Na) in multibreed herds using data predicted with mid-infrared spectroscopy. The dataset included 139,821 observations from 16,566 cows and 977 herds. Fixed effects considered in the mixed model were breed, parity, stage of lactation and first-order interactions, and random effects were cow, herd-test-date, and the residual.

[Synchronous pulmonary and lachrymal glands involvement by MALT lymphoma].

Primary lung lymphomas are rare tumors representing less than 1% of malignant tumors of the lung. The most frequent form is the mucosa-associated lymphoid tissue (MALT). Ocular involvement is also rare and it is mostly located in the lachrymal glands.

PEDIATRIC HEAD CT EXPOSURE DOSES IN TUNISIA: A PILOT STUDY TOWARDS THE ESTABLISHMENT OF NATIONAL DIAGNOSTIC REFERENCE LEVELS.

The purpose of this study was to assess and analyze the radiation doses during head pediatric CT from different CT units within six Tunisian hospitals representing different geographic regions in order to optimize the dose given and minimize the radiology risk to this category of patients and towards the derivation of national diagnostic reference levels. Patient data and exposure parameters were collected for four age groups (<1, 1-5, 5-10 and 10-15 y). Clinical protocols and exposure settings were analyzed.

Value of Cine-MRI sequences before and after injection in the diagnosis of acute myocarditis.

Background: Cardiovascular magnetic resonance (CMR) has become the examination of choice in case of suspicion of acute myocarditis. Late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) imaging is very important to establish this diagnosis. Cine MRI sequences are useful for the study of the myocardial contractility.

Romanian wild boars and Mangalitza pigs have a European ancestry and harbour genetic signatures compatible with past population bottlenecks.

We aimed to analyse the genetic diversity of Romanian wild boars and to compare it with that from other wild boar and pig populations from Europe and Asia. Partial sequencing of the mitochondrial encoded cytochrome b (MT-CYB) gene from 36 Romanian wild boars and 36 domestic pigs (Mangalitza, Bazna and Vietnamese breeds) showed that the diversity of Romanian wild boars and Mangalitza pigs is fairly reduced, and that most of the members of these two populations share a common MT-CYB haplotype. Besides, in strong contrast with the Bazna animals, Romanian wild boars and Mangalitza swine did not carry Asian variants at the MT-CYB locus.

Patient taking chemotherapy for a small cell lung cancer: not every cerebral nodule is a metastasis: the tree that hides the forest.

We report the case of a 53- year-old man in whom the diagnosis of small cell lung cancer (SCLC) was made by the biopsy of a mass of the right trapezius muscle. A tumor was revealed on flexible bronchoscopy which pathological study showed tuberculosis (TB). Chest computed tomography (CT) scan revealed findings related to the SCLC associated to micronodules and nodules compatible with pulmonary TB.

[Malignant peripheral sheath nerve tumor: An exceptional mass of the anterior and middle mediastinum].

Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNST) are rare nervous tumors usually located in the posterior mediastinum in the paravertebral gutters. We report the case of a non-smoking 62-year-old man who was admitted with a 4 months history of cough, hoarseness and shortness of breath. Physical examination noted a superior vena cava syndrome.

Primary sarcomatoid lung cancer: clinical and evolutive features: about five cases.

Background: Primary sarcomatoid carcinoma of the lung are rare non small cell lung cancers (NSCLC) recently individualized by the World Health Organization. Their clinical, radiological and evolutive features are not well known but they seem to have bad prognosis with rapid progression and early metastases. Although they are felt to be chemo-refractory they must be treated as the other subtypes of NSCLC.
