Cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) is essential during cardiac surgeries but frequently leads to lung ischemia-reperfusion injury (LIRI), a significant contributor to postoperative complications. This study investigated the protective effects of MOTS-c, a mitochondrial-derived peptide, against LIRI-induced acute lung injury (ALI), emphasizing glycolytic reprogramming and ferroptosis in pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells (PMVECs). We hypothesized that MOTS-c exerts its protective effects by regulating glycolysis and suppressing ferroptosis via metabolic signaling pathways.

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the diagnostic potential of serum CXC chemokine ligand 5 (CXCL5) in patients with chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) and to establish a prediction model for better diagnosis of CAG.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted, encompassing 570 cases of CAG patients admitted to the Department of Gastroenterology of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Anhui University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, who underwent gastroscopy and received pathologically confirmed diagnoses between June 2018 and June 2023. Additionally, 570 cases without CAG who underwent health checkups were included and classified into the control group.

We aimed to: (1) explore the risk factors that affect the prognosis of cardiac surgery-associated acute kidney injury (CS-AKI) in patients undergoing renal replacement therapy (RRT) and (2) investigate the predictive value of the Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE) III score, Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score, and Vasoactive-Inotropic Score (VIS) for mortality risk in patients undergoing RRT. Data from patients who underwent cardiac surgery from January 2015 through February 2021 were retrospectively reviewed to calculate the APACHE III score, SOFA score, and VIS on the first postoperative day and at the start of RRT. Various risk factors influencing the prognosis of the patients during treatment were evaluated; the area under the receiver operating characteristics curve (AUC) was used to measure the predictive ability of the three scores.
