Among fruits, the apple is unique for producing large amounts of the dihydrochalcone phloridzin, which, together with phloretin, its aglycone, is valuable to the pharmaceutical and food industries for its antidiabetic, antioxidant, and anticarcinogenic properties, as well as its use as a sweetener. We analysed the phloridzin concentration, total phenolic content, and antioxidant activity in the peel, flesh, seeds, juice, and pomace of 13 international and local apple varieties. In the unprocessed fruit, the seeds had the highest phloridzin content, while the highest total phenolic contents were mostly found in the peel.

A comprehensive comparison was conducted on the effect of conventional thermal processing (TT), high-pressure processing (HP), pulse electric field (PF), and ohmic heating (OH) on water-soluble vitamins and color retention in strawberry nectar. The ascorbic acid (AA) content increased by 15- and 9-fold after TT and OH treatment, respectively, due to rupturing of cells under heat stress and release of intracellular AA. Dehydroascorbic acid (DHA) content did not change considerably after TT and PF treatment but significantly decreased after HP and OH treatment.

In the fields of health and biology, fluorescent nanomaterials have emerged as highly potential and very useful candidates for use in biosensor applications. These typical highly powerful nanomaterials are carbon dots (CDs) and graphene quantum dots (GQDs) among many other metallic nanomaterials. In the context of medical biosensors, this review article investigates the techniques of synthesis, and many uses of these nanomaterials, the obstacles that they face, and the potential for their future.

Pesticides present in their commercial formulations are studied for their preferable binding toward carbon-based graphene oxide (GO) or transition metal nanoparticles (Fe, Co, Ni, and Cu), present as hybrids. This simple study also reveals the mechanism of interaction of few selected different classes of pesticides, namely, λ-cyhalothrin, imidacloprid, and metsulfuron-methyl toward these hybrids. Individually, to study this comparative binding when hybrids are not used, the understanding of preferred binding toward any of these selected compounds could be challenging, costly, and time-consuming.

A short cut review was carried out to establish whether Kocher's or Milch's technique was better at reducing shoulder dislocations. A total of 304 papers were found of which one answered the three part question. The clinical bottom line is that the individual preference of physicians for either Kocher's or Milch's method of reduction is not supported by the evidence.
