Background: The COBRA-like (COBL) gene family is a crucial glycosylphosphatidylinositol (GPI)-anchored proteins that participate in various biological processes in plants by regulating the arrangement of cell wall microfibrils. While the functions of COBL genes have been analyzed in several plant species, their roles in cotton's response to abiotic stress remain unexplored.

The impacts of straw removal on rice Cd absorption, behaviour of Cd and microbial community in rhizosphere soil were investigated in paddy fields over two consecutive seasons. The results of the experiments in two fields revealed that straw removal promoted the transformation of soil Cd from acid-extractable and oxidisable fraction to residual fraction and reduced soil DTPA-Cd content with the reduction in DOC and Cd ions in soil porewater, thereby decreasing Cd content in rice. Achieving active site engineering at the atomic level poses a significant challenge in the design and optimization of catalysts for energy-efficient catalytic processes, especially for a reaction with two reactants competitively absorbed on catalytic active sites. Herein, we show an example that tailoring the local environment of cobalt sites in a robust metal-organic framework through substituting the bridging atom from -Cl to -OH group leads to a highly active catalyst for oxygen activation in an oxidation reaction. Comprehensive characterizations reveal that this variation imparts drastic changes on the electronic structure of metal centers, the competitive reactant adsorption behavior, and the intermediate formation.

Analyzing the relationship between individual relative deprivation and rural residents' health inequality is a deepening of the research on the social impact of individual relative deprivation. On the theoretical basis of the absolute and relative income hypothesis, using the data of China Family Panel Studies in 2018, taking other residents in the village as the reference group, this paper selects the relative income deprivation and absolute income to comprehensively quantify the generalized impact of farmers' income gap, introduces the psychological capital guidance mechanism, and constructs a moderated-mediation model for the impact of relative deprivation on the health inequality of rural residents in China from the three dimensions of self-assessment of health, mental health and physical health. The estimation results of the multi-layer model show that the relative income deprivation of rural residents has a significant impact on health inequality, among which the impact of mental health is the strongest.

Manipulating quantum properties by electric fields using spin-electric coupling (SEC) effects promises spatial addressability. While several studies about inorganic materials showing the SEC functionality have been reported, the vastly tunable crystal structures of molecular ferroelectrics provide a range of rationally designable materials yet to be exploited. A new type of nano-SnFeO with stable lattice-oxygen and abundant surface defects anchored on ultra-thin graphene-like porous carbon networks (SFO@C) is prepared for the first time by an interesting freezing crystallization salt template method. The functional composite has excellent rate performance and long-term cycle stability for lithium-ion battery (LIB) anodes due to the stable structure, improved conductivity, and shortened migrating distance for lithium-ions, which are derived from the higher lattice-oxygen of SnFeO, abundant porous carbon networks and surface defects, and smaller nanoparticles. Under the ultra-high current density of 10, 15, and 20 A g cycling for 1000 times, the SFO@C can provide high reversible capacities of 522.
