Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to create a machine learning model to predict the risk of re-fracture in elderly hip fracture patients post-surgery, helping identify those at high risk early on.
  • Clinical data were analyzed using a variety of machine learning algorithms, with models like WeightedEnsemble_L2 showing the best prediction performance in determining independent risk factors such as age and comorbidities.
  • The final model can serve as a valuable tool for healthcare providers, enhancing their ability to assess and manage the risk of re-fractures in elderly patients effectively.

Monascus is a widely used natural microorganism in our country, which can produce useful secondary metabolites. Studies have shown that the nitrogen source directly affects the growth, reproduction, and secondary metabolites of Monascus. As a global transcriptional regulator of nitrogen metabolism, MareA gene is involved in the regulation of secondary metabolism.

Background: Chimeric antigen receptor T (CAR-T) cell therapies have achieved remarkable success in the treatment of hematological tumors. However, given the distinct features of solid tumors, particularly heterogeneity, metabolic aggressiveness, and fewer immune cells in tumor microenvironment (TME), the practical utility of CAR-T cells for solid tumors remains as a challenging issue. Meanwhile, although anti-PD-1 monoclonal antibody (mAb) has shown clinical efficacy, most mAbs also show limited clinical benefits for solid tumors due mainly to the issues associated with the lack of immune cells in TME.

Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is one of the common complications after joint replacement, which seriously affects the quality of life of patients. We systematically searched nine databases, a total of eleven studies on prediction models to predict DVT after knee/hip arthroplasty were included, eight prediction models for DVT after knee/hip arthroplasty were chosen and compared. The results of network meta-analysis showed the XGBoost model (SUCRA 100.

Article Synopsis
  • * A new therapy combines disulfiram (DSF) and copper (Cu) with the chemotherapy drug docetaxel (DTX), leading to improved immune responses against tumors.
  • * This combination therapy showed significantly stronger anti-tumor effects in mice, suggesting that combining immune-boosting agents with traditional chemotherapy could be beneficial for metastatic breast cancer patients.

Background: Influenza is a clinically important infectious disease with a high fatality rate, which always results in severe pneumonia. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) exhibit promising therapeutic effects on severe viral pneumonia, but whether MSCs prevent virus infection and contribute to the prevention of influenza remains unknown.

Methods: ICR mice were pretreated with human umbilical cord (hUC) MSCs and then infected with the influenza H7N9 virus.

Background: Exercise intervention (EI) is a promising and economical way for elderly patients with hip fracture, but the evidence regarding effective EIs remains fragmented and controversial, and it is unclear which type of exercise is optimal. The purpose of this Bayesian network meta-analysis (NMA) is to compare and rank the efficacy of various EIs in elderly patients with hip fracture.

Materials And Methods: A comprehensive literature search was performed using a systematic approach across various databases including Medline (via PubMed), CINAHL, CNKI, Web of Science, Wan Fang, Embase, VIP, Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials and CBM databases.

Transcriptional repressor B cell lymphoma 6 (Bcl6) is a major transcription factor involved in Tfh cell differentiation and germinal center response, which is regulated by a variety of biological processes. However, the functional impact of post-translational modifications, particularly lysine β-hydroxybutyrylation (Kbhb), on Bcl6 remains elusive. In this study, we revealed that Bcl6 is modified by Kbhb to affect Tfh cell differentiation, resulting in the decrease of cell population and cytokine IL-21.
