Objectives: Computer-aided schizophrenia (SZ) detection methods mainly depend on electroencephalogram and brain magnetic resonance images, which both capture physical signals from patients' brains. These inspection techniques take too much time and affect patients' compliance and cooperation, while difficult for clinicians to comprehend the principle of detection decisions. This study proposes a novel method using face diagnosis images based on traditional Chinese medicine principles, providing a non-invasive, efficient, and interpretable alternative for SZ detection.

Article Synopsis
  • Taxol is the primary chemotherapy for advanced non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), but many patients develop resistance, making it crucial to find ways to counteract this resistance.
  • The study evaluated the potential of ASIV to reverse taxol resistance using various assays and discovered that it works by suppressing genes linked to the cancer cell's stemness.
  • ASIV's mechanism involves promoting the degradation of epiregulin (EREG), which suppresses the signaling that leads to resistance, suggesting that targeting pathways like EREG/ErbB/ERK could be a way to improve treatment outcomes for resistant NSCLC.

Jarosite waste is a by-product generated from iron removal process in the jarosite process, which typically contains valuable metals including zinc, nickel, cobalt, silver, indium, and lead. Due to the large amount of jarosite and the less efficient and costly methods of recovering residual metals, it is mainly disposed by landfills. However, leachate generated from the landfills can release high concentrations of heavy metals, which contaminate nearby water resources and pose environmental and health risks.

Sulfonamide antibiotics (SAs) are widely used antimicrobial agents in livestock and aquaculture, and most of them entering the animal's body will be released into the environment as prodrugs or metabolites, which ultimately affect human health through the food chain. Both acid deposition and salinization of soil may have an impact on the migration and degradation of antibiotics. Sulfamethazine (SM2), a frequently detected compound in agricultural soils, has a migration and transformation process in the environment that is closely dependent on environmental pH.

Background: Acquired chemo-drug resistance constantly led to the failure of chemotherapy for malignant cancers, consequently causing cancer relapse. Hence, identifying the biomarker of drug resistance is vital to improve the treatment efficacy in cancer. The clinical prognostic value of CYP24A1 remains inconclusive, hence we aim to evaluate the association between CYP24A1 and the drug resistance in cancer patients through a meta-analysis approach.

The effect of electronegativity on the electrosorption selectivity of anions during capacitive deionization was investigated via a combination of experimental and theoretical studies. A model was developed based on chemical thermodynamics and the classic Stern's model to reveal the role of the anode potential and to describe electrosorption selectivity behavior during capacitive deionization. The effects of the anode potential on the adsorption of Cl and ReO were studied and the obtained data were used to validate the model.

A unified design for a 1×2 beam splitter of dielectric rectangular transmission gratings under the second Bragg incidence is theoretically investigated for TE- and TM-polarized light. The empirical equations of the relative grating parameters (ratio of the absolute one to incidence wavelength) for this design are also obtained with the simplified modal method (SMM). The influences of polarization of incident light and relative grating parameters on the performance of the beam splitter are thoroughly studied based on the SMM and rigorous coupled-wave analysis.

Using an intensified CCD spectroscopic detector (Princeton Instruments, ICCD PI-Max 1024 RB) which can be gated in as little as 5 ns, the synchronization of the measuring system was controlled by a digital delay generator (Stanford Research Systems, DG535), the DG535 was triggered externally by a lab-made electrical pulse generator which transformed the optical trigger signal to an electrical signal, and the light signal from the end window of an explosion shock tube was delivered by an 1 mm in diameter plastic optical fiber to the entrance slit of the spectrometer (grating of 150 g x mm(-1) , central wavelength of 550 nm). The spectrum measurement of the epoxypropane in the process of deflagration to detonation transition (DDT) was then made. The instantaneous emission spectra of epoxypropane at different time of the DDT process with an exposure time of several microseconds were acquired.
