Objective: We explored the risk factors for the occurrence of delayed facial paralysis (DFP) after microvascular decompression (MVD) for hemifacial spasm (HFS).
Methods: A retrospective study was conducted of 636 patients who had undergone MVD for HFS by the same neurosurgery department of China-Japan Friendship Hospital from January 2006 to May 2016. Of the 636 patients, 50 (7.
Diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain (DPNP) is a common manifestation of diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN). Although the pathogenesis of DPNP remains unclear, the disinhibition of spinal dorsal horn neuronal circuitry mediated by endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) is an important mechanism underlying neuropathic pain (NP). Tanshinone II A is mainly used to treat cardiovascular diseases but has also been shown to relieve various types of neuralgia, including DPNP.

Diabetic peripheral neuropathic pain (DPNP) is a common and intractable complication of diabetes. Conventional therapies are always not ideal; development of novel drugs is still needed to achieve better pain relief. Recent evidences have demonstrated that inflammation is involved in the onset and maintenance of DPNP.

Danhong injection (DHI) has been widely used in China for cardiocerebrovascular diseases treatments. And in this study, we demonstrated the therapeutic effect of DHI on experimental diabetic neuropathy for the first time. .

The aim of this study was to characterize which patients may have more pain relief benefits in the lower limbs after nerve decompression surgery.
Methods: A retrospective study was conducted.
Painful diabetic neuropathy (PDN) is one of the intractable complications of diabetes mellitus, which manifest as exaggerated pain perception. Previous studies showed that Tanshinone IIA (TIIA), one of the major bioactive extracts of Salvia miltiorrhiza Bunge, have obvious analgesic effect on different types of pain process, and the underlying analgesic mechanisms are not fully understood. The present study combined the behavioral, electrophysiological and biochemical methods to elucidate the analgesic mechanism of TIIA, using streptozotocin (STZ)-induced PDN rat models.

In the present study, we investigated the protective effects of a phosphodiesterase 10A (PDE10A) inhibitor MP-10 on deficits in long-term fear memory induced by REM sleep deprivation (REM-SD). REM-SD caused deficits in long-term fear memory, however, MP-10 administration ameliorated the deleterious effects of REM-SD on long term fear memory.

Few studies, however, have reported the quality-of-life outcomes of surgery for the treatment of painful DPN (PDPN). The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effects of microsurgical decompression of multiple entrapped peripheral nerves on pain and health-related quality of life in patients with refractory PDPN of the lower limbs.

Impairments in mobilization and function of the BM-derived EPCs have previously been reported in animal and human studies of diabetes where there is both reduction in the levels of the BM-derived EPCs and its ability to promote angiogenesis. This is hypothesized to account for the pathogenesis of diabetic vascular complications such as stroke.

Cell division cycle protein 14 (Cdc14) is an important cell cycle regulatory phosphatase. Previous studies in budding yeast demonstrated that Cdc14 could trigger the inactivation of mitotic cyclin-dependent kinases (Cdks), which are required for mitotic exit and cytokinesis.

Materials And Methods: Of the 1221 microvascular decompression procedures performed for idiopathic hemifacial spasm between March 2001 and July 2007, 16 (1.3%) were in adolescent age (≤18).
Previous studies have indicated that bone morphogenetic protein-7 (BMP-7) is neuroprotective against cerebral ischemia/reperfusion (IR) injury. The present study was undertaken to determine the molecular mechanisms involved in this effect. Adult male Wistar rats were subjected to 2 h of transient middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO), followed by 24 h of reperfusion.

The aim of this study was to elucidate the effects of glutathione (GSH) on free fatty acids (FFAs)-induced HBVECs apoptosis, oxidative stress, and the involved possible signaling pathway.
Methods: After culturing HBVECs for 72 h with GSH and FFAs, we determined cell proliferation by CCK8, detected apoptosis by caspase-3 and Annexin V-FITC/PI staining, and judged oxygen stress by determining the reactive oxygen species (ROS) and the mitochondrial membrane potential (MMP).
