- The study investigated the impact of incorporating salt-tolerant forages into lamb diets on rumen fermentation and nutrient absorption, by replacing corn stover in varying ratios.
- Results showed that lambs fed with salt-tolerant forages had lower ruminal pH and altered metabolite production, with increased total volatile fatty acids (VFAs) but decreased digestibility of organic matter and nitrogen retention.
- While salt-tolerant forages improved some aspects of rumen fermentation, they may lead to a decrease in overall nutrient availability and could require additional protein supplements for optimal lamb health and productivity.*
