Medical image segmentation demands the aggregation of global and local feature representations, posing a challenge for current methodologies in handling both long-range and short-range feature interactions. Recently, vision mamba (ViM) models have emerged as promising solutions for addressing model complexities by excelling in long-range feature iterations with linear complexity. However, existing ViM approaches overlook the importance of preserving short-range local dependencies by directly flattening spatial tokens and are constrained by fixed scanning patterns that limit the capture of dynamic spatial context information.

Viral infectious diseases, caused by numerous viruses including severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), influenza A virus (IAV), enterovirus (EV), human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), hepatitis B virus (HBV), and human papillomavirus (HPV), pose a continuous threat to global health. As obligate parasites, viruses rely on host cells to replicate, and host cells have developed numerous defense mechanisms to counteract viral infection. Host restriction factors (HRFs) are critical components of the early antiviral response.

Background: In Canada, founder variants in breast cancer susceptibility genes have been identified in populations residing in Québec and Newfoundland, thus demonstrating the value in characterizing the genetic profile of local populations for better clinical management. New Brunswick has a diverse, yet genetically unexplored population that includes founder Irish and Acadian ancestry, among others, and we hypothesized that this population could demonstrate potential enrichments for variants in breast cancer genes.

Methods: Health records were retrospectively analyzed for 445 cases referred to the genetics clinic in Moncton, New Brunswick, their molecular results were summarized and compared to allele frequencies from similar studies in Canada.

β-coronavirus rearranges the host cellular membranes to form double-membrane vesicles (DMVs) via NSP3/4, which anchor replication-transcription complexes (RTCs), thereby constituting the replication organelles (ROs). However, the impact of specific domains within NSP3/4 on DMV formation and RO assembly remains largely unknown. By using cryogenic-correlated light and electron microscopy (cryo-CLEM), we discovered that the N-terminal and C-terminal domains (NTD and CTD) of SARS-CoV-2 NSP3 are essential for DMV formation.

Optimizing an emergency air pollution control strategy for haze events presents a significant challenge due to the extensive computational demands required to quantify the complex nonlinearity associated with controls on diverse air pollutants and regional sources. In this study, we developed a forecasting tool for emergency air pollution control strategies based on a predictive response surface model that quantifies PM responses to emission changes from different pollutants and regions. This tool is equipped to assess the effectiveness of emergency control measures corresponding to various air pollution alerts and to formulate an optimized control strategy aimed at specific PM targets.

  • A multi-index nomogram prediction model was developed to assess clinically significant prostate cancer by integrating PI-RADS V2.1 scores, quantitative MRI parameters, and clinical factors in a study involving over 2000 patients.
  • The model's effectiveness was evaluated using various statistical methods, including AUC (Area Under the Curve), revealing high sensitivity and specificity, particularly with two models: one combining PI-RADS and PSAD, and another that added ADCmean.
  • Validation results indicated strong performance in predicting CSPCa across both internal and external cohorts, with no significant difference found between predicted and actual probabilities, supporting the model's reliability.

While cobalt metal is recognized as a versatile catalyst in various chemical reactions, such as Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, limited attention has been paid to understanding the detailed adsorptive interactions between water molecules and cobalt metal. In this study, we investigated the adsorption of water molecules on Co(0001) at 100 K using infrared reflection adsorption spectroscopy and low-energy electron diffraction. We experimentally revealed, for the first time, that DO adsorbed intact on the Co(0001) surface forms hexamer islands with coexisting D-up and D-down geometries, in line with the "ice bilayer" model.
