The use of corticosteroids and intravenous immunoglobulin (IVIg) in SJS/TEN remains controversial. In this single-center, observational, propensity-matched, retrospective study, we collected a total of 224 patients with SJS/TEN who were hospitalized in our department from 2008 to 2019; according to treatment with IVIg combined with corticosteroids or with corticosteroids alone, patients were divided into combination therapeutic group (163 patients) and monotherapeutic group (61 patients).

Sulfur-containing species are essential in the composition and the metabolism of the organisms, thus developing a full set of implements to cover all of them is still a favorable choice. Herein, we chose imidazo [1,5-α]pyridine moiety as the basic fluorophore for the detection of sulfite, and preliminarily completed the toolset since biothiols (GSH, Cys, Hcy), HS, and PhSH could be detected by sensors based on the same backbone. The designed sensor, IPD-SFT, with structural novelty and large Stokes shift (130 nm), indicated the most attractive advantages of remarkably rapid response period (within 1 min) and high selectivity for sulfite from all the sulfur-containing species.

The abnormal angiogenesis and insufficient oxygen supply in solid tumors lead to intratumoral hypoxia, which severely limits the efficacy of traditional photodynamic therapy (PDT). Here, a multifunctional nanoplatform (ZDZP@PP) based on a zeolitic imidazolate framework-67 (ZIF-67) core as a hydrogen peroxide catalyst, a zeolitic imidazolate framework-8 (ZIF-8) shell with a pH-responsive property, and a polydopamine-poly(ethylene glycol) (PDA-PEG) layer for improving the biocompatibility is fabricated for not only relieving tumor hypoxia but also enhancing the efficacy of combination chemo-photodynamic therapy. The chemotherapy drug doxorubicin (DOX) and photosensitizer protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) are encapsulated in different layers independently; thus, a unique two-stage stepwise release becomes possible.

The origin, structure, and variability of the Ryukyu Current (RC) have long been debated, mostly due to limited observations. A mooring array, deployed for two years southeast of Miyakojima in the southern portion of the Ryukyu Island chain, has provided, for the first time, data confirming the existence and revealing the characteristics of the RC in that upstream region, including its velocity structure and variability. The observations show a shoreward-intensified current flowing northeastward, with a subsurface core located near the 1,000 m isobath and having a record-long mean speed of up to 19.

Coast-fitting tomographic inversion that is based on function expansion using three types of normal modes (the Dirichlet, Neumann, and open boundary modes) is proposed to reconstruct current fields from the coastal acoustic tomography (CAT) data. Near-inertial waves (NIWs), which have clockwise (anticlockwise) rotational motion in the Northern (Southern) Hemisphere, exist everywhere in the ocean except at the equator; their frequencies are largely determined by the local inertial frequency, f. It is thought that they supply about 25% of the energy for global ocean mixing through turbulence resulting from their strong current shear and breaking; this contributes mainly to upper-ocean mixing which is related to air-sea interaction, typhoon genesis, marine ecosystem, carbon cycle, and climate change. Observations and numerical simulations have shown that the low-mode NIWs can travel many hundreds of kilometres from a source region toward the equator because the lower inertial frequency at lower latitudes allows their free propagation.
