Lymph node metastasis (LNM) is a typical marker in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) indicating poor prognosis. Pathological examination by artificial image acquisition and analysis, as the main diagnostic method for LNM, often takes a week or longer which may cause great anxiety of the patient and also retard timely treatment. However, there are few efficient fast LNM diagnosis methods in clinical applications currently.

Background: Pancreaticoduodenectomy combined with portal vein (PV) and/or superior mesenteric vein (SMV) resection in patients with pancreaticobiliary malignancy has become a common surgical procedure. There are various grafts currently used for PV and/or SMV reconstruction, but each of these grafts have certain limitations. Therefore, it is necessary to explore novel grafts that have an extensive resource pool, are low cost with good clinical application, and are without immune response rejection or additional damage to patients.

  • Emerging zoonoses from wildlife, like the plateau pika virus (PPV), pose significant threats to human health, especially in unique ecosystems like the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau.
  • Researchers identified PPV through virome analysis and found that it can replicate in various mammalian cells, causing serious health issues in animal models, including trembling and sudden death.
  • PPV is distinct from other known mammarenaviruses, with an estimated divergence time of 77-88 million years, indicating its long-standing presence before other similar viruses.

Background: In the perioperative period of biliary surgery, various factors can induce the release of a large number of inflammatory factors, leading to an imbalance in pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory responses and resulting in gastrointestinal (GI) dysfunction. Enhanced Recovery After Surgery protocols in biliary surgery have been shown to reduce the stress response and accelerate postoperative recovery. It is crucial to reduce the inflammatory response and promote the recovery of GI function after biliary surgery, both of which are the basis and key for perioperative care and postoperative recovery.

Background: Mechanical loading has been widely considered to be essential for growth plate to maintain metabolism and development. Cyclic mechanical strain has been demonstrated to induce autophagy, whereas the relationship between cyclic tensile strain (CTS) and autophagy in growth plate chondrocytes (GPCs) is not clear. The objective of this study was to investigate whether CTS can regulate autophagy in GPCs in vitro and explore the potential mechanisms of this regulation.

Article Synopsis
  • - AITC (allyl isothiocyanate) has shown potential in improving symptoms of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) by regulating lipid metabolism and reducing inflammation.
  • - In studies involving COPD rat models and 16HBE cell stimulation, AITC treatment resulted in better lung function, reduced inflammatory markers (IL-1 β and TNF- α), and improved lipid metabolism, compared to control groups.
  • - The beneficial effects of AITC were linked to its ability to activate LXR pathways, which reversed the negative impacts of cigarette smoke exposure on lipid metabolism and macrophage inflammation, indicating a specific molecular mechanism of action.
