Glutamate receptor-like (GLRs) genes play essential roles in plant growth and development, and in coping with environmental stresses; however, information on GLR genes in Dendrobium species is lacking. We identified 25 GLR genes in three Dendrobium species, which were classified into three subfamilies based on their phylogenetic relationships. These genes have been relatively conserved during evolution.

Aqueous zinc-ion batteries have emerged as promising candidates for large-scale energy storage, but their cycle stability is limited by irreversible zinc anodes due to dendrite growth and undesired side reactions. Here, an artificial composite protective layer consisting of a Zn metal-organic framework (MOF) layer infiltrated with a hydrophobic ionic liquid 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazoline bis(trifluoromethyl sulfonyl) imide is constructed on zinc anodes. The unique porous structure of the MOF enables uniform electric field distribution, effectively inducing uniform Zn plating and stripping.

Single-cell lineage tracing based on CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing enables the simultaneous linkage of cell states and lineage history at a high resolution. Despite its immense potential in resolving the cell fate determination and genealogy within an organism, existing implementations of this technology suffer from limitations in recording capabilities and considerable barcode dropout. Here, we introduce DuTracer, a versatile tool that utilizes two orthogonal gene editing systems to record cell lineage history at single-cell resolution in an inducible manner.

Background And Aims: Previous studies have demonstrated that peptidylarginine deiminase 4 (PAD4) functions as a suppressor, promoter, or both in cancer pathogenesis and therapeutic outcomes. Although PAD4 expression has been proposed to be one of the molecular features of gastric cancer (GC), the biological basis of PAD4 in GC progression and chemotherapy has not been formally established.

Methods: Cell type-preferential expression of PAD4 was analyzed in both preclinical and clinical models.

Background: The brachial plexus block is conducive to providing postoperative analgesia for patients with humeral fractures. The commonly used brachial plexus block techniques have a high incidence rate of hemidiaphragmatic paralysis (HDP), which may lead to respiratory problems. The combined costoclavicular brachial plexus - cervical plexus blocks (CCB-CPBs) had demonstrated favorable analgesic effects and had reduced the incidence of HDP in shoulder surgeries.

Objective: To evaluate the value of conventional ultrasound (US), strain elastography (SE), and shear wave elastography (SWE) in detecting diabetic peripheral neuropathy (DPN) of the tibial nerve (TN), and to establish a predictive model for the diagnosis of DPN.

Methods: A total of 32 healthy participants, 34 diabetic patients without DPN, and 36 diabetic patients with DPN were recruited for this study. The TN at the ankle and popliteal fossa were selected for examination.

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the deadliest malignancies globally, with high incidence and mortality rates. Early detection is crucial for improving treatment success rates and patient survival. However, due to the difficulty in detecting early symptoms, many cases are diagnosed at advanced stages, necessitating more sensitive and accurate detection methods.

Article Synopsis
  • The study explores how mutations in SARS-CoV-2 challenge efforts to reduce the virus's infectivity and identifies host factors that could serve as new antiviral drug targets.
  • Researchers found that SARS-CoV-2 reduces the stability and translation of ACTN4 mRNA, which then inhibits ACTN4 expression, affecting viral replication.
  • Two compounds, YS-49 and demethyl-coclaurine, were identified as effective in reducing SARS-CoV-2 infection in lab cells and animal models, highlighting ACTN4's significant role and potential for drug development.

Article Synopsis
  • - Adjuvant treatments for advanced gastric cancer, like chemoradiotherapy and immunotherapy, often come with severe side effects and limited effectiveness, highlighting the need for new therapies with less toxicity.
  • - Previous studies indicated that a total terpene extract from a specific plant showed anti-gastric cancer effects, but the mechanism behind this was not well understood.
  • - Recent research identified alpha actinin-4 (ACTN4) as a potential biomarker for gastric cancer, suggesting that the plant extract may target ACTN4 and alter its interaction with another protein, PTBP1, to help combat the disease.

Background: Lactylation, a newly discovered PTM involving lactic acid, is linked to solid tumor proliferation and metastasis. Lymphoma patients exhibit high lactic acid levels, yet lactylation's role in lymphoma is underexplored. This study aimed to identify lactylation-related genes in lymphoma using tumor databases and assess their predictive value in patient prognosis through cell experiments and clinical specimens.

Dengue fever is a mosquito-borne viral disease caused by the dengue virus (DENV). It poses a public health threat globally and, while most people with dengue have mild symptoms or are asymptomatic, approximately 5% of affected individuals develop severe disease and need hospital care. However, knowledge of the molecular mechanisms underlying dengue infection and the interaction between the virus and its host remains limited.

Introduction: The activity changes of cytochrome P450 (CYP450) enzymes, along with the complicated medication scenarios in diabetes mellitus (DM) patients, result in the unanticipated pharmacokinetics (PK), pharmacodynamics (PD), and drug-drug interactions (DDIs). Physiologically based pharmacokinetic (PBPK) modeling has been a useful tool for assessing the influence of disease status on CYP enzymes and the resulting DDIs. This work aims to develop a novel diabetic PBPK population model to facilitate the prediction of PK and DDI in DM patients.

Increasing evidences suggest that the methyltransferase NSUN2 catalyzes 5-methylcytosine (m5C) modifications on viral RNAs, which are essential for the replication of various viruses. Despite the function of m5C deposition is well characterized, other potential roles of NSUN2 in regulating viral replication remain largely unknown. In this study, the m5C modified residues catalyzed by NSUN2 on enterovirus 71 (EV71) RNAs were mapped.

Unsupervised monocular depth estimation plays a vital role for endoscopy-based minimally invasive surgery (MIS). However, it remains challenging due to the distinctive imaging characteristics of endoscopy which disrupt the assumption of photometric consistency, a foundation relied upon by conventional methods. Distinct from recent approaches taking image pre-processing strategy, this paper introduces a pioneering solution through intrinsic image decomposition (IID) theory.

  • The heat shock protein 70 (HSP70) gene family is vital for how organisms, including shrimp, respond to environmental stress, but it hasn't been thoroughly studied in shrimp before this research.
  • This study identified 25 HSP70 genes in the shrimp genome, categorized them into six subgroups based on evolutionary relationships, and found that gene amplification was mainly due to tandem duplication and strong purifying selection.
  • Analysis showed that these genes exhibited varying expression patterns under stress conditions like low temperature, low salinity, and virus infection, with one gene being notably activated in all scenarios, highlighting its key role in stress response.

Radiotherapy is one of the primary treatment methods for tumors, but the organ movement caused by respiration limits its accuracy. Recently, 3D imaging from a single X-ray projection has received extensive attention as a promising approach to address this issue. However, current methods can only reconstruct 3D images without directly locating the tumor and are only validated for fixed-angle imaging, which fails to fully meet the requirements of motion control in radiotherapy.
