Background: To date, limited research has been conducted within China to elucidate the national prevalence and incidence rates of benign prostatic hyperplasia/lower urinary tract symptoms (BPH/LUTS). Additionally, there is a scarcity of studies that have systematically investigated the reliable risk factor patterns associated with the development of BPH/LUTS among the Chinese population.

Methods: The study was in both cross-sectional and prospective cohort study design.

In response to physiological stress, some bacterial strains have the ability to produce spores that are able to resist conventional food heating processes and even more extreme environmental factors. Dormant spores can germinate and return to their vegetative state during food preservation, leading to food spoilage, or safety issues that pose a risk to human health. Thus, spore inactivation technology is gaining more and more attention.

Design strategies for chiral iridium(III) complexes with stable circularly polarized luminescent properties have emerged as important research topics in the field of organic photonics. Given the high rigidity, low chemical activity and multi-closed-loop structure of -camphor, its chirality cannot be easily affected. Furthermore, the introduction of indolo[3,2,1-]carbazole is beneficial for the narrow emission spectrum.

Aging affects human immune system functionality, increasing susceptibility to immune-mediated diseases. While gene expression programs accurately reflect immune function, their relationship with biological immune aging and health status remains unclear. Here we developed robust, cell-type-specific aging clocks (sc-ImmuAging) for the myeloid and lymphoid immune cell populations in circulation within peripheral blood mononuclear cells, using single-cell RNA-sequencing data from 1,081 healthy individuals aged from 18 to 97 years.

The medical application of Computed Tomography (CT) is to provide detailed anatomical structures of patients without the need for invasive procedures like surgery, which is very useful for clinicians in disease diagnosis. Excessive radiation exposure can lead to the development of cancers. It is of great importance to reduce this radiation exposure by using low-dose CT (LDCT) acquisition, which is effective, but reconstructed CT images tend to be degraded, leading to the loss of vital information which is one of the most significant drawbacks of this technique.

Objectives: Gout, prevalent inflammatory arthritis caused by urate crystal deposition, involves immune cell activation, yet the precise role of CD14 monocytes in initiating the inflammatory response is poorly understood. This study aimed to characterise the molecular and cellular landscape of CD14 monocytes in gout using single-cell transcriptomic analysis.

Methods: Single-cell RNA sequencing was performed on peripheral blood mononuclear cells from 8 gout patients and 6 age- and sex-matched healthy controls.

Background: Upper eyelid retraction (UER), the primary symptom of thyroid-associated orbitopathy (TAO), can affect perceived eyeball position. This study aimed to assess relative anatomical positions, and examine changes in eyeball position and related factors in TAO patients with unilateral UER.

Methods: In total, 30 TAO patients with unilateral UER and 67 healthy control participants were included in this retrospective study.

Objective: This study aims to investigate the safety and feasibility of early oral feeding in patients with gastric cancer after gastrectomy.

Methods: A total of 135 patients with gastric cancer who would receive gastrectomy were enrolled in the study, with 61 in early oral feeding group and 74 in control group. Outcomes included nutrient intake, nutritional status, gastrointestinal functions and symptoms, pain, physical activity time, clinical outcomes and inflammation markers.

Background And Purpose: Right ventricular (RV) function is the key prognostic determinant of pulmonary hypertension (PH). In PH patients, imatinib treatment decreases pulmonary vascular resistance and improves exercise capacity, but does not change mortality or duration to clinical worsening. Imatinib has been reported to be cardiotoxic in the left heart.

Background: Alzheimer disease (AD) is a progressive condition characterized by cognitive decline and memory loss. Vision transformers (ViTs) are emerging as promising deep learning models in medical imaging, with potential applications in the detection and diagnosis of AD.

Objective: This review systematically examines recent studies on the application of ViTs in detecting AD, evaluating the diagnostic accuracy and impact of network architecture on model performance.

Circular RNA (circRNA), a subtype of noncoding RNA, has emerged as a significant focus in RNA research due to its distinctive covalently closed loop structure. CircRNAs play pivotal roles in diverse physiological and pathological processes, functioning through mechanisms such as miRNAs or proteins sponging, regulation of splicing and gene expression, and serving as translation templates, particularly in the context of various cancers. The hallmarks of cancer comprise functional capabilities acquired during carcinogenesis and tumor progression, providing a conceptual framework that elucidates the nature of the malignant transformation.

Developing efficient and stable near-infrared emitters related to Cr-pairs for advanced optoelectronic devices remains a challenge due to concentration quenching effects and unclear luminescence mechanisms. In this study, Cr ions are incorporated into a matrix structure consisting of ZnAl₂O₄ spinel units separated by 11.312 Å, effectively restricting energy transfer between luminescent centers and alleviating quenching effects.

Cor pulmonale, a condition marked by right ventricular dysfunction, is frequently associated with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and significantly worsens COPD prognosis. Despite the clinical relevance of cor pulmonale, development of effective treatments is hindered by the lack of animal models that accurately replicate the complex interplay between cor pulmonale and COPD. This study introduces a novel rat model combining cigarette smoke exposure with left pulmonary artery ligation to better mimic the pathophysiological features of COPD-related cor pulmonale.

Background: In the intensive care unit (ICU), invasive aspergillosis (IA) has a poor prognosis. Some studies report a positive association between diabetes mellitus (DM) and IA in critically ill patients, but the relationship between DM and IA in the ICU remains controversial. We aimed to clarify the relationship between DM and IA among patients in the ICU in a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: The protein cereblon (CRBN) mediates the antileukemia effect of lenalidomide (Len). Len binds to CRBN, recruits IKZF1/IKZF3, and promotes their ubiquitination and degradation, through which Len exhibits its antileukemia and antimyeloma activity. Therefore, the protein level of CRBN might affect the antiproliferative effect of Len.

Mucosal antigen-specific T cells are pivotal for pathogen clearance and immune modulation in respiratory infections. Dysregulated T cell responses exacerbate coronavirus disease 2019 severity, marked by cytokine storms and respiratory failure. Despite extensive description in peripheral blood, the characteristics of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2)-specific T cells in the lungs remain elusive.

Late Miocene climate evolution provides an opportunity to assess Earth's climate sensitivity to carbon cycle perturbation under warmer-than-modern conditions. Despite its relevance for understanding the climate system, the driving mechanisms underlying profound climate and carbon cycle changes - including the enigmatic Late Miocene cooling from 7 to 5.4 million years ago - remain unclear.

Objectives: To investigate the clinical and laboratory features of Sjögren's syndrome-associated autoimmune liver disease (SS-ALD) patients and identify potential risk and prognostic factors.

Methods: SS patients with or without ALD, who visited Tongji Hospital between the years 2011 and 2021 and met the 2012 American College of Rheumatology (ACR) classification criteria for Sjögren's syndrome, were retrospectively enrolled. The clinical and laboratory data of the enrolled patients, including autoimmune antibodies, were collected and analyzed with principal component analysis, correlation analysis, LASSO regression, and Cox regression.
