ELF4 (E74-like factor 4) is a transcription factor, dysregulation of which has been associated with carcinogenesis and cancer development. Nevertheless, the precise role of ELF4 in glioma pathology and its impact on clinical outcomes remains to be investigated. In the present research, comprehensive analyses demonstrated that elevated expression of ELF4 in glioma tissues correlates with malignant phenotypes and adverse clinical outcomes.

Background: Sepsis is a heterogeneous syndrome with high morbidity and mortality. Optimal and effective classifications are in urgent need and to be developed.

Methods And Results: A total of 1,936 patients (sepsis samples, n=1,692; normal samples, n=244) in 7 discovery datasets were included to conduct weighted gene co-expression network analysis (WGCNA) to filter out candidate genes related to sepsis.

Objective: To develop and validate an admission warning strategy that incorporates the general emergency department indicators for predicting the hospital discharge outcome of patients with traumatic brain injury (TBI) in China.

Methods: This admission warning strategy was developed in a primary cohort that consisted of 605 patients with TBI who were admitted within 6 h of injury. The least absolute shrinkage and selection operator and multivariable logistic regression analysis were used to develop the early warning strategy of selected indicators.

Glioblastoma is the most common malignant primary brain tumor with poor prognosis and low long-term survival rate. Here we described the production of an iPSC line generated from peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) of a 24-year-old female gliocytoma patient. The PBMCs were reprogrammed by the non-integrating Sendai Virus with human OKSM (OCT3/4, SOX2, KLF4, and c-MYC) transcription factors.

Capicua (Cic), a transcriptional repressor frequently mutated in brain cancer oligodendroglioma, is highly expressed in adult neurons. However, its function in the dendritic growth of neurons in the hippocampus remains poorly understood. Here, we confirmed that Cic was expressed in hippocampal neurons during the main period of dendritogenesis, suggesting that Cic has a function in dendrite growth.

Approximately 30% of medulloblastoma (MB) patients exhibit metastasis at initial diagnosis, which often leads to a poor prognosis. Here, by using univariate Cox regression analysis, two machine learning methods (Lasso-penalized Cox regression and random survival forest-variable hunting (RSF-VH)), and multivariate Cox regression analysis, we established two metastasis-related prognostic models, including the 47-mRNA-based model based on the Lasso method and the 21-mRNA-based model based on the RSF-VH method. In terms of the results of the receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curve analyses, we selected the 47-mRNA metastasis-associated model with the higher area under the curve (AUC).

Gliomas are the most commonly occurring primary malignant brain tumors in the central nervous system of adults. They are rarely curable and the prognosis for high grade gliomas is generally poor. Recently, long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) human ovarian cancer-specific transcript 2 (HOST2) has been reported to be expressed at high levels in human ovarian cancer, involving tumorigenesis.

Objective: The presence of a glioma is associated with increasing mortality. In this study, nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) based metabonomics has been applied to investigate the metabolic signatures of a glioma in plasma. The purpose of this study was to assess the diagnostic potential of this approach and gain novel insights into the metabolism of glioma and its systemic effects.

Previous investigations have found that ebselen is able to treat neurodegenerative diseases caused by radical and acute total cerebral ischaemia. The aim of the present study was to investigate the neuroprotective effects of ebselen in a traumatic brain injury (TBI) model. Ninety Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly divided into five groups (n = 18 in each): (i) sham operation; (ii) an injury model group; (iii) low-dose (3 mg/kg) ebselen-treated group; (iv) a moderate-dose (10 mg/kg) ebselen-treated group; and (v) a high-dose (30 mg/kg) ebselen-treated group.
