[Progress of researches on acupuncture treatment of spinal cord injury by regulating programmed cell death].

Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a highly disabling disease of the central nervous system, and seriously affects the patients' quality of life. A large number of studies have shown that programmed cell death (PCD) is an important pathological mechanism of secondary injury in SCI. As a non-drug therapy, acupuncture therapy has the characteristics of bidirectional, holistic and multi-level actions, which can target PCD pathways to play a neuroprotective effect, and has great potential in regulating PCD in the treatment of SCI.

[Research progress on analgesic mechanism of acupuncture for cancer pain].

Cancer pain is one of the common complications in patients with intermediate or advanced cancer, which brings severe sufferings to patients and their families, and also seriously interferes with the anti-tumor process. Acupuncture is an effective method for the treatment of cancer pain, which has the advantages of simple operation, quick effect and fewer side effects, and is widely used in clinic. In this paper, we reviewed the relevant literature on the mechanisms of acupuncture in the treatment of cancer pain both at home and abroad in recent years, and summarized the analgesic mechanisms of acupuncture for cancer pain from the peripheral level and the central level.

[Electroacupuncture of "Jiaji" (EX-B2) inhibits inflammatory response by regulating HMGB1/TLR4/NF-κB signaling pathway in rats with spinal cord injury].

Objectives: To observe the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) of "Jiaji" (EX-B2) on expression of high mobility group box 1 (HMGB1)/Toll-like receptor 4 (TLR4)/nuclear factor-κB (NF-κB) related proteins and inflammation-related factors in spinal cord injury (SCI) rats, so as to explore the dynamic process of inhibiting inflammatory response in rats with SCI, and to provide a new idea and theoretical basis of molecular biology for the treatment of SCI.

Methods: Fifty-four SD rats were randomly divided into sham operation, model, and EA groups (=18 in each group), which were further divided into 3 d, 7 d and 14 d subgroups, with 6 rats at each time point. The SCI model was established according to the Allen's method.

[Neuro-endocrine-immune network mechanism of acupuncture for post-stroke depression].

The nervous, endocrine and immune systems are interconnected through neurotransmitters, endocrine hormones and cytokines, forming a neuro-endocrine-immune (NEI) network that outputs effect information to target organs in a multi-level and multi-system manner. The effects of acupuncture can be amplified through the NEI network, causing local microenvironment responses at acupoints to treat post-stroke depression (PSD). This paper systematically elucidates the mechanisms of acupuncture treatment for PSD from three aspects: nervous, endocrine and immune, and reveals the potential mechanisms and biological pathways of acupuncture treatment for PSD from an overall perspective based on the NEI network, aiming to provide a reliable theoretical basis for fundamental research on acupuncture treatment for PSD.

Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS) is a complex and perplexing medical disorder primarily characterized by persistent and debilitating fatigue, often accompanied by a constellation of symptoms, including weakness, dyspnea, arthromyalgia, sore throat, and disrupted sleep patterns. CFS is defined by its persistent or recurrent manifestation for a minimum duration of six months, marked by an enduring and unrelenting fatigue that remains refractory to rest. In recent decades, this condition has garnered significant attention within the medical community.

Research progress on the mechanism of acupuncture on type Ⅱ diabetes mellitus.

Acupuncture is an effective measure for treating type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Many studies have shown that acupuncture can reduce blood glucose in patients with T2DM, but its mechanism is still unclear. This review summarized the mechanism of acupuncture on T2DM, the mechanisms of acupuncture in treating T2DM is related to improving insulin resistance, regulating inflammation, promoting insulin secretion, improving lipid metabolism disorders, resisting oxidative stress, improving obesity, controlling intestinal flora, and regulating the nervous system.

Effect of electroacupuncture on expression of protein phosphorylation in hippocampus tissues of rats with chronic fatigue syndrome.

Objectives: To observe the effect of electroacupuncture (EA) on behavior and hippocampal protein phosphorylation in rats with chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS), so as to explore its mechanisms underlying improvement of CFS.

Methods: Male SD rats were randomly divided into control, model and EA groups (=12 rats in each group). The CFS model was established by chronic multifactor combined with stress stimulation (treadmill training + restraint stress + sleep disturbance + crowded environment).

Methods: Twenty-seven SD rats were randomly divided into control, model and electroacupuncture (EA) groups (=9 rats in each group). The CFS model was established by multi-factor compound stress stimulation method.

Exploring the central mechanism of mind-regulation electroacupuncture in treatment of chronic fatigue syndrome with anxiety and depression comorbidity based on functional magnetic resonance imaging.

Objectives: To observe the changes in the regional homogeneity (ReHo) and functional brain network in treatment of chronic fatigue syndrome (CFS) with anxiety and depression comorbidity with the mind-regulation electroacupuncture (EA), using resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (rs-fMRI).

Methods: Thirty CFS patients with anxiety and depression comorbidity were enrolled from medical staffs as the observation group. The other 30 healthy subjects were recruited from medical university students as the control group, matching gender, age and education years with the observation group.

Exploring the role of gut microbiota in migraine risk: a two-sample Mendelian randomization study.

Objectives: The presence of intestinal flora in the gut has been linked to migraines in recent studies, but whether the association is causal or due to bias remains to be clarified. We aimed to explore whether there is a potential causal relationship between gut microbiota and migraine risk with this study.

Materials And Methods: We conducted a two-sample Mendelian randomized analysis study to explore whether gut microbiota has a causal relationship with migraine using publicly available data from large-scale genome-wide association studies.

Methods: Forty-eight male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to control group (Con), CFS model group (Mod, established by multiple chronic stress for 35 d), MoxA group (CFS model with moxibustion Shenque (CV8) and Guanyuan (CV4), 10 min/d, 28 d) and MoxB group (CFS model with moxibustion Zusanli (ST36), 10 min/d, 28 d). Open-field test (OFT) and Morris-water-maze test (MWMT) were determined for assessment the CFS model and the therapeutic effects of moxibustion.

Objective: The study aims to investigate and visualize the hotspots of acupuncture for Allergic rhinitis (AR) over the past two decades and pinpoint future trends in this field.

Method: We conducted a systematic search of English-language articles or reviews on acupuncture for AR in the Web of Science Core Collection from 2002 to 2022. Using Citespace, VOSviewer, and Bibliometrix, we analyzed and visualized the publications, countries, institutions, authors, journals, and keywords from various angles.

Does acupuncture have advantages in the rehabilitation of vascular mild cognitive impairment? A systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Vascular mild cognitive impairment (VMCI) is a common impairment caused by vascular factors. VMCI often occurs after stroke, and it is the main clinical manifestation of long-term disability. Many patients are treated with acupuncture in combination with other therapies.

[Research progress on the effect mechanism of acupuncture-moxibustion for pressure injuries].

Evidence shows that acupuncture-moxibustion could promote the healing of pressure injuries (PI), but its action mechanism is not fully understood. This review summarizes the basic research literature of acupuncture-moxibustion for PI and identifies that the mechanism of acupuncture-moxibustion for PI is related with regulation of related signaling pathway target proteins, improvement of inflammatory response, modulation of vascular microenvironment, attenuation of oxidative stress damage, and inhibition of cell apoptosis. The review also points out the current limitations and future research directions.

Acupuncture therapy has been widely used in clinical treatment of allergic rhinitis (AR), and can induce a positive therapeutic effect through multi-targets and multi-aspects. In recent 10 years, the research on the mechanisms of acupuncture in treating AR mainly focused on humoral immunity, cellular immunity, cell apoptosis, inflammatory mediators and factors, neuropeptides, etc. By regulating the level of immunoglobulin in the blood, acupuncture intervention can restore the relative balance of cellular immune response, reduce the accumulation of eosinophils and promote apoptosis, down-regulate the expression of related inflammatory mediators and factors, regulate the excitability of related nerves, modulate the release of neuropeptides and other ways to diminish the inflammatory reaction of nasal mucosa, and enhance the repair and protection of nasal mucosa, relieve the nasal symptoms at last.

Background: Postherpetic neuralgia (PHN) is a common, complex, and refractory type of neuropathic pain. Several systematic reviews support the efficacy of acupuncture and related treatments for PHN. Nevertheless, the efficacy of various acupuncture-related treatments for PHN remains debatable.
