Background: Over 400,000 patients are admitted annually for small bowel obstruction (SBO), of which 20-40% require operative intervention, representing more than 2.3 billion dollars in healthcare expenses. Recurrence of SBO increases with a longer duration of follow-up with up to 15-20% recurrence rates within a five-year period.

The diagnostic and prognostic role of miR-27a in cancer.

MicroRNA-27a (miR-27a) has been reported to be abnormally expressed in patients with cancer, and it could play potential roles as a diagnostic and prognostic biomarker of cancers. However, the diagnostic and prognostic role remains unclear. Hence, this meta-analysis, based on published data, was conducted to assess the utility of miR-27a as a diagnostic and prognostic marker in various cancers.

A Case of Solitary Peutz-Jeghers Syndrome Leading to Chronic Small Bowel Obstruction Due to Intussusception From a Large Hamartomatous Polyp.

We report a case of a 33-year-old male who presented to the emergency department with a three-day history of severe diffuse abdominal pain associated with anorexia, nausea, and vomiting. Computed tomography (CT) imaging of the abdomen and pelvis revealed a long segment of intussusception in the proximal jejunum and a round lesion along the intussusception with punctate hyperdensities. The patient underwent a diagnostic laparoscopy converted to open small bowel resection and end-to-end anastomosis that demonstrated a pedunculated jejunal mass.

The cure rates of () treatment using a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) are gradually decreasing due to antibiotic resistance, poor compliance, high gastric acidity, and cytochrome P450 2C19 (CYP2C19) polymorphism, and the effects of PPI depend on metabolic enzymes, cytochrome P450 enzymes. The aim of this meta-analysis was to determine whether CYP2C19 polymorphisms affect cure rates in patients treated with different proton pump inhibitors (PPIs) according to stratified analysis. The literature was searched with the key words "" and "CYP2C19" in PubMed, CNKI, and Wanfang up to 31 May 2022, and the studies were limited to clinical observational or randomized controlled trials (RCTs).

Comparison between core needle biopsy and excisional biopsy for breast neoplasm.

This study aimed to explore clinical significance of core needle biopsy (CNB) in pathological diagnosis of breast neoplasm.Seventy one breast neoplasm samples were obtained from Tongzhou Maternal and Child Health Hospital of Beijing between the years of 2006 and 2014. Background According to the Nationwide Inpatient Sample in 2011, nearly 1,500,000 admissions with over 300,000 laparotomies were performed for adhesion-related small bowel obstructions (SBOs). Small bowel follow through (SBFT) consists of serial X-rays with oral Gastrografin contrast that can diagnose obstructions requiring operative intervention. Furthermore, the contrast has a therapeutic osmotic effect which may promote transit and resolve an SBO.

Selective Effects of Sport Expertise on the Stages of Mental Rotation Tasks With Object-Based and Egocentric Transformations.

It is well established that motor expertise is linked to superior mental rotation ability, but few studies have attempted to explain the factors that influence the stages of mental rotation in sport experts. Assessment of the safety and efficacy of an attenuated live vaccine based on highly pathogenic porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus.

The safety and efficacy of the JXA1-R vaccine, an attenuated strain of highly pathogenic porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (HP-PRRSV), were examined using an intramuscular challenge model in piglets. The JXA1-R vaccine was obtained by passing HP-PRRSV JXA1 through Marc-145 cells (82nd passage). Genomic sequence comparisons showed that strain JXA1-R and its parental strain, JXA1, differ by 47 amino acids, and most of these differences are scattered throughout the PRRSV genome.
