Background: Stimulants are potent treatments for central hypersomnolence disorders or attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorders/attention deficit disorders but concerns have been raised about their potential negative consequences and their increasing prescription rates.

Objective: We aimed to describe stimulant prescription trends in Switzerland from 2014 to 2021. Second, we aimed to analyze the characteristics of individuals who received stimulant prescriptions in 2021 and investigate the link between stimulant prescriptions and hospitalization rates in 2021, using hospitalization as a potential indicator of adverse health outcomes.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how antibiotics like sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim affect nitrogen removal in wastewater treatment, revealing that low levels (15 mg/L) can enhance performance by benefiting specific bacteria.
  • High antibiotic concentrations negatively impact bacterial gene expression and nitrogen removal efficiency, leading to system collapse (removal rates below 40% and 20% for ammonia and total nitrogen, respectively).
  • The research also highlights a slight increase in antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs), especially those related to efflux, with Klebsiella identified as a key host for these ARGs in the system.

  • Balancing nutrient application is essential for the growth of apple trees, especially regarding phosphate (P) and zinc (Zn) levels, as imbalanced fertilization can hinder nutrient uptake.
  • A study conducted on M9-T337 seedlings tested various combinations of low, medium, and high P and Zn levels, revealing that high P combined with adequate Zn significantly improved plant growth and nutrient absorption compared to lower levels.
  • Results showed that optimal P and low Zn treatment dramatically enhanced photosynthetic capacity, antioxidant activity, and sugar content, while higher Zn levels negatively affected these benefits.

Caffeic acid O-methyltransferase (), as a multifunctional enzyme involved in various physiological and biochemical processes in lignin metabolism, plays an important role in a plant's response to stress. In this study, we isolated family members from the walnut genome by bioinformatics and analyzed their physicochemical properties and their expression under drought stress to provide gene resources for drought resistance in walnut. The results showed that 33 genes were identified from walnuts and distributed on different chromosomes.

Members of the glycosyltransferase 8 (GT8) family play an important role in regulating gene expression in response to many kinds of biotic and abiotic stress. In this study, 56 members of the apple GT8 family were identified, and their gene structure, phylogenetic relationships, chromosomal localization, and promoter cis-acting elements were comprehensively analyzed. Subsequently, 20 genes were randomly selected from the evolutionary tree for qRT-PCR detection, and it was found that MhGolS2 was significantly overexpressed under stress conditions.

Soil salinization is one of the major environmental factors that restrict plant growth and development. Zeaxanthin epoxidase (ZEP) functions in ABA biosynthesis and the xanthophyll cycle and has a vital role in plant responses to various environmental stresses. It was found by quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR) that responded to saline-alkali stress and showed the highest expression at 48 h of saline-alkali stress, which was 14.

Iron (Fe) deficiency is one of the most common micronutrient imbalances limiting plant growth globally, especially in arid and saline alkali regions due to the decreased availability of Fe in alkaline soils. grows well in arid regions and is tolerant of Fe deficiency. Here, a physiological and metabolomic approach was used to analyze the short-term molecular response of roots to Fe deficiency.

The PYL protein family are crucial sensors of the core signals of abscisic acid (ABA) and significantly influence the plant's response to ABA-mediated abiotic stresses as well as its growth and development. However, research on the role of the gene in iron (Fe) deficiency in apple trees is limited. Studies have shown that the gene, when exposed to Fe-deficiency stress, exhibits more rapid transcriptional upregulation than other genes' quickly elevated transcription.

Plants have, throughout evolution, developed a hydrophobic cuticle to protect them from various stresses in the terrestrial environment. The cuticle layer is mainly composed of cutin and cuticular wax, a mixture of very-long-chain fatty acids and their derivatives. With the progress of transcriptome sequencing and other research methods, the key enzymes, transporters and regulatory factors in wax synthesis and metabolism have been gradually identified, especially the study on the regulation of wax metabolism by transcription factors and others in response to plant stress has become a hot topic.

Saline-alkali stress is a significant abiotic stress that restricts plant growth globally. Basic region leucine zipper () transcription factor proteins are widely involved in plants in response to abiotic stress such as saline-alkali stress. Based on transcriptome and quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR), we found that the gene could respond to saline-alkali stress.

SiC ceramics are typically hard and brittle materials. Serious surface/subsurface damage occurs during the grinding process due to the poor self-sharpening ability of monocrystalline diamond grits. Nevertheless, recent findings have demonstrated that porous diamond grits can achieve high-efficiency and low-damage machining.

In vitro tumor models are essential for understanding tumor behavior and evaluating tumor biological properties. Hydrogels that can mimic the tumor extracellular matrix have become popular for creating 3D in vitro tumor models. However, designing biocompatible hydrogels with appropriate chemical and physical properties for constructing tumor models is still a challenge.

Unlabelled: ALDH (Aldehyde dehydrogenase), as an enzyme that encodes the dehydroxidization of aldehydes into corresponding carboxylic acids, played an important role inregulating gene expression in response to many kinds of biotic and abiotic stress, including saline-alkali stress. Saline-alkali stress was a common stress that seriously affected plant growth and productivity. Saline-alkali soil contained the characteristics of high salinity and high pH value, which could cause comprehensive damage such as osmotic stress, ion toxicity, high pH, and HCO/CO stress.

The construction of aerobic denitrification (AD) systems in an antibiotic-stressed environment is a serious challenge. This study investigated strategy of cyclic stress with concentration gradient (5-30 mg/L) of sulfamethoxazole (SMX) in a sequencing batch reactor (SBR), to achieve operation of AD. Total nitrogen removal efficiency of system increased from about 10 % to 95 %.

The effects of NaCl-induced salinity on biomass allocation, anatomical characteristics of leaves, ion accumulation, salt repellency, and salt secretion ability were investigated in two apple rootstock cultivars ( '9-1-6' and ), which revealed the physiological adaptive mechanisms of '9-1-6' in response to salt stress factors. This experiment was conducted in a greenhouse using a nutrient solution pot. Salt stress was simulated by treating the plants with a 100 mM NaCl solution, while 1/2 Hoagland nutrient solution was used as a control (CK) instead of the NaCl solution.
