The increasing challenge of marine biofouling, mainly due to barnacle settlement, necessitates the development of effective antifoulants with minimal environmental toxicity. In this study, fifteen derivatives of brusatol were synthesized and characterized using C-NMR, H-NMR, and mass spectrometry. All the semi-synthesized compounds obtained using the Multi-Target-Directed Ligand (MTDL) strategy, when evaluated as anti-settlement agents against barnacles, showed promising activity.

The phylogenetic studies of the tribe Alsineae (Caryophyllaceae) have revealed a clearer boundary between the genus and related genera, primarily relying on the morphological characteristics of style 3, stamens 10 and petals deeply bifid. However, the newly-published species in China, which have 5 styles or ten or more lobes per petal, challenge this boundary and necessitate further studies. High-risk populations are the predominant populations affected by hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection, and there is an urgent need for efficient and cost-effective HCV testing strategies for high-risk populations to identify potential undiagnosed HCV-infected individuals. This study compared several commonly used testing strategies and conducted effectiveness and cost analysis to select the appropriate testing strategy for diagnosing HCV infection in high-risk populations. Among the 2093 samples from high-risk populations in this study, 1716 were HCV negative, 237 were current HCV infection, 137 were past HCV infection, and three were acute early HCV infection.
