Background: Molecular imaging has generated a great demand to develop targeted contrast agents for MR imaging.

Materials And Methods: In this study, we synthesized Src homology 2-containing phosphotyrosine phosphatase 2 (SHP2)-targeted and polylactic-co-glycolic acid--based nanoparticles (NPs), which encapsulated perfluoropentane and being chelated with gadolinium (Gd) as an efficient molecular probe for targeting MR imaging on thyroid carcinoma.

Results: These NPs displayed practical properties and favorable biocompatibility in vitro.

Background: Contrast-enhanced ultrasound imaging has been widely used in the ultrasound diagnosis of a variety of tumours with high diagnostic accuracy, especially in patients with hepatic carcinoma, while its application is rarely reported in thyroid cancer. The currently used ultrasound contrast agents, microbubbles, cannot be targeted to molecular markers expressed in tumour cells due to their big size, leading to a big challenge for ultrasound molecular imaging. Phase-changeable perfluorocarbon nanoparticles may resolve the penetrability limitation of microbubbles and serve as a promising probe for ultrasound molecular imaging.

Purpose: SHP2 has roles in a variety of signal transduction pathways and in many important cellular processes, including proliferation, differentiation, movement regulation, and apoptosis. In addition, SHP2 expression is closely associated with multiple types of malignancies. In this study, we examined the role of SHP2 in epithelial ovarian cancer.

Observational studies have demonstrated an association between elevated homocysteine (Hcy) level and risk of multiple myeloma (MM). However, it remains unclear whether this relationship is causal. We conducted a Mendelian randomization (MR) study to evaluate whether genetically increased Hcy level influences the risk of MM.

Erythroid differentiation-associated gene (EDAG) is differentially expressed in normal hematopoietic progenitor/stem cells and a variety of embryonic tissues. High EDAG-1 expression is also found in human thyroid cancer cells and peripheral blood of patients with leukemia, but its functional significance was unclear. Current study aims to further clarify the expression pattern of EDAG-1 and tests its roles in proliferation and invasion of human thyroid cancer cells in vitro and in vivo.

Protein-tyrosine phosphatase SHP2 is encoded by the gene PTPN11. SHP2 is hypothesized to have a critical role in cancer, via the activation of mutations that have been detected in several types of leukaemia and in certain solid tumours, including liver, breast, gastric and cervical cancer. However, to the best of our knowledge, there have been no previous reports evaluating the significance of SHP2 expression in thyroid cancer.

Article Synopsis
  • Chronic moderate alcohol consumption is linked to worsened outcomes in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) patients, correlating with advanced cancer stages and poorer prognosis.
  • Research using both patient data and lab experiments indicates that alcohol enhances the cancer's progression and ability to spread, driven by increased tumor hypertrophy and blood vessel growth.
  • The study highlights that the underlying mechanism involves the buildup of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and activation of NF-κB signaling, leading to increased production of growth factors like VEGF and MCP-1 that promote tumor development.

Arsenite (AS) is a ubiquitous environmental element that is widely present in food, soil, and water. Environmental exposure to AS represents a major global health concern, because AS is a well-established human carcinogen. We hypothesize that low concentration of AS could enhance metastasis and proliferation of transformed cancer cells by promoting EMT.
