Abnormal accumulation of mercury ions (Hg) in organisms can lead to severe central nervous system and other diseases. Therefore, the monitoring and detection of Hg are of great significance for human health and environmental safety. Herein, we designed and synthesized a novel far-red to NIR emission fluorescent probe (Rho-Hg) based on rhodamine derivative as the fluorophore and thiospirolactone as the recognition site for turn-on detecting of Hg in living cells and zebrafish.

Recently, supramolecular chemistry with its unique properties has received considerable attention in many fields. Supramolecular fluorescent systems constructed on the basis of macrocyclic hosts are not only effective in overcoming the limitations of imaging and diagnostic reagents, but also in enhancing their performances. This paper summarizes the recent advances in supramolecular fluorescent systems based on host-guest interactions and their application in bioimaging and therapy as well as the challenges and prospects in developing novel supramolecular fluorescent systems.

We systematically investigated all 13 exons of the PAH gene and their flanking introns in 31 unrelated patients and their parents using next-generation sequencing (NGS). A total of 33 different variants were identified in 58 of 62 mutant PAH alleles.

Through comparative analysis of PTA gene (pta) and its deduced amino acid sequence with those of other Araceae species, pta was found to encode a precursor lectin with signal peptide and to have extensive homology with those of other Araceae species. PTA was a heterotetrameric mannose-binding lectin with three mannose-binding boxes like lectins from other Araceae and Amaryllidaceae species.
