Article Synopsis
  • Metalenses are special lenses that work really well for focusing light and taking clear pictures, which makes them useful in areas like optics and holography.
  • In this study, a new type of metalens was created that works in the infrared range and can focus light really effectively.
  • This new metalens could help make smaller, more efficient cameras for detecting infrared light, which is important for improving how we see things in that wavelength.

Background: Multicellular parasites larvae develop in the final host rat brain at the fourth stage (L4) and migrate to the lungs by the adult stage. The potential mechanism of its blood-brain barrier (BBB) passage remains unclear.

Methods: By using Illumina Hiseq/Miseq sequencing, we obtained the transcriptomes of 3 groups of adult males and 3 groups of female of to generate similarly expressed genes (SEGs) between 2 genders at the adult stage.

Background: When develops from the third and fourth stage, it needs to change its host from the middle host, snail to the final host, rat. However, the mechanism involved in this change remains unclear.

Methods: The transcriptome differences of the third and fourth stages of were explored by next-generation Illumina Hiseq/Miseq sequencing in China, in 2018.

Hemp seed has been used as a traditional oriental medicine and health food in China for centuries. Polysaccharides from hemp seed (HSP) exhibit important properties of intestinal protection, but there are limited data on the specific underlying mechanism. The primary objective of this study was to investigate the protective effect of HSP on intestinal oxidative damage induced by cyclophosphamide (Cy) in mice.

Article Synopsis
  • Human cytomegalovirus (hCMV) causes lifelong latent infections and can reactivate when immunity is low, with no current vaccine available and existing antiviral drugs having significant side effects.
  • The study investigated the effects of piceatannol on hCMV infection in human fibroblast WI-38 cells, showing that it prevents lytic changes and reduces hCMV protein expression and DNA replication in a dose-dependent manner.
  • Piceatannol also mitigates hCMV-induced cellular senescence by lowering senescence markers and reactive oxygen species, suggesting it could be a promising treatment for chronic hCMV infections.

Low molecular seleno-aminopolysaccharide (LSA) was synthesized with sodium selenite and low molecular aminopolysaccharide (LA), which is an organic selenium compound. This study is aimed to investigate the protective effect of LSA on the intestinal mucosal barrier in weaning stress rats by detecting the intestinal tissue morphology and function, mucosal thickness and permeability, the structure of MUC2, antioxidant index, the expression level of intracellular transcription factor NF-E2-related factor 2 (Nrf2), and its related factors. The results showed that LSA significantly increased the height of intestinal villi ( < 0.

The aim of the study was to investigate the antioxidant effect of seleno-amino-oligosaccharide (Se-AOS) on intestinal porcine epithelial cells (IPEC-1). MTT assay showed that Se-AOS had no effect on the viability of IPEC-1 cells up to a concentration of 9200 μg/L and Se-AOS significantly increased the viability of IPEC-1 cells compared to cells exposed to HO alone. Se-AOS significantly increased the level of superoxide Dismutase (SOD) and decreased the levels of malonic dialdehyde (MDA) and lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) in IPEC-1 cells.

Calorie restriction (CR) is a nongenetic intervention with a robust effect on delaying aging in mammals and other organisms. A mild stimulation on mitochondrial biogenesis induced by CR seems to be an important action mode for its benefits. Here, we reported that a component isolated from .

Background: Previous studies have demonstrated that platelets play a multifaceted role in cancer progression and metastasis. However, the value of platelet indices for predicting survival in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) patients remains unknown. The aim of this study was to evaluate the predictive significance of platelet indices in NPC cases.

Porphyran (P) was extracted from red algae Porphyra by boiling water. A novel polysaccharide-iron complex (LPPC) was prepared under the alkaline condition by adding a ferric chloride solution to the low molecular weight porphyran (LP) solution. Physicochemical properties and inhibition effect on iron deficiency anemia of this complex were studied.
