[Randomized controlled trials of needle knife therapy combined with rotation traction manipulation for the treatment of cervical spondylotic radiculopathy].

Objective: To compare the therapeutic effects between needle knife therapy combined with rotation traction manipulation and rotation traction manipulation for the treatment of cervical spondylotic radiculopathy.

Methods: From November 2013 to June 2015, 80 patients with cervical spondylotic radiculopathy meeting the inclusion criteria were divided into two groups randomly:the control group in which 39 patients were treated with rotation traction manipulation, and the treatment group in which 41 patients were treated with needle knife combined with rotation traction manipulation. The patients in the control group were treated once dayly for 2 weeks, which was 1 course.

[Knowledge and practice on schistosomiasis control of boatmen along Yangtze River].

Objective: To understand the knowledge and practice on schistosomiasis control of boatmen along the Yangtze River, so as to provide the evidence for making up schistosomiasis control measures for them.

Methods: In the anchor spots along the Yangtze River in Xinbei District, Changzhou City, a questionnaire survey was carried out for boatmen's knowledge and practice on schistosomiasis control. Among the boatmen of different genders, ages and education levels, the awareness rates of schistosomiasis control knowledge and the formation rates of correct behavior were compared.

Novel irreversible caspase-1 inhibitor attenuates the maturation of intracellular interleukin-1beta.

Caspase-1, the most efficient enzyme in processing the proinflammatory cytokines interleukin 1beta and interleukin 18 in humans, is associated with inflammatory diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, and some neuronal diseases. We previously reported that isoquinoline-1,3,4-trione and its derivatives are novel caspase-3 inhibitors that could attenuate apoptosis in vitro and in vivo. Here we report a novel derivative of isoquinoline-1,3,4-trione that is highly potent in inhibiting caspase-1 activity in an irreversible and slow-binding manner, thus inhibiting cellular caspase-1 activity and the maturation of interleukin 1beta in U-937 cells.

Caspase-3 is a programmed cell death protease involved in neuronal apoptosis during physiological development and under pathological conditions. It is a promising therapeutic target for treatment of neurodegenerative diseases. We reported previously that isoquinoline-1,3,4-trione and its derivatives inhibit caspase-3.

Reproduction response of Chinese mitten-handed crab (Eriocheir sinensis) fed different sources of dietary lipid.

The effect of feeding three semi-purified diets containing different lipid sources (anchovy oil, soybean oil and pork lard) on fecundity, hatchability and egg fatty acid composition of Chinese mitten-handed crab (Eriocheir sinensis) broodstock was compared with a fresh clam diet in a 6-month feeding trial. Broodstock crabs fed the diet containing pork lard showed poor fecundity and low hatchability. Crabs fed the diet containing soybean oil showed improved fecundity; however, no significant improvement in hatchability was observed.
