Ultraviolet (UV) absorption spectra are commonly used for characterizing the global structure of proteins. However, the theoretical interpretation of UV spectra is hindered by the large number of required expensive ab initio calculations of excited states spanning a huge conformation space. We present a machine-learning (ML) protocol for far-UV (FUV) spectra of proteins, which can predict FUV spectra of proteins with comparable accuracy to density functional theory (DFT) calculations but with 3-4 orders of magnitude reduced computational cost.

Unc‑5 Netrin Receptor C (UNC5C) is a netrin‑1 dependence receptor that mediates the induction of apoptosis in the absence of netrin‑1. The present study found that UNC5C is heterogeneously expressed in breast cancer cell lines. By knocking down UNC5C in SK‑BR‑3 and ZR‑75‑30 cells and overexpressing UNC5c in MDA‑MB‑231 cells, it was demonstrated that UNC5C exerts an inhibitory effect on the growth and metastasis of breast cancer cells.

The antibiofilm activity and molecular mechanism of a natural phenolic compound, 3--coumaroyl-2-hydroxyquinic acid (CHQA) against were investigated in this study. Crystal violet staining and XTT reduction assay demonstrated that CHQA could prominently prevent the biofilm formation of accompanied with decrease in metabolic activity of biofilm cells. Meanwhile, microscopic observations revealed that CHQA caused a huge collapse on the architecture of biofilm.

The early-life aversive experiences are associated with the increased risk for adolescent neuropsychiatric disorders and neuroinflammation. So, we used neonatal maternal deprivation (NMD) and chronic mild stress (CMS) to build adolescent depression model and investigate the role of microglia activation, PI3K/Akt/NF-κB pathway in female rats. Pups in NMD group were separated from mothers for 3 h each day from postnatal day (PND) 2 to PND 21 and rats in CMS group were subjected to one mild stressor each day from PND 22 to PND 42.
