Triptolide (TP) is the major active ingredient of Tripterygium wilfordii Hook, a traditional Chinese herb that possesses various pharmacological activities and has been used to treat autoimmune and inflammatory diseases for thousands of years. However, the clinical application of TP is limited due to its multiorgan toxicity, and in particular, its negative impact on female fertility. To date, the specific toxic mechanisms on reproduction induced by TP remain unclear.
