Background: Childhood-to-adult persistent asthma is usually considered to be an atopic disease. However gastroesophageal reflux may also play an important role in this phenotype of asthma, especially when it is refractory to pulmonary medicine.
Methods: Fifty-seven consecutive GERD patients who had decades of childhood-to-adult persistent asthmatic symptoms refractory to pulmonary medication were enrolled.
Background: A case of mesocavoatrial shunting for the treatment of Budd-Chiari syndrome (BCS) with long-term follow-up is reported.
Methods: A 25-year-old man with stage II BCS was treated with a mesocavoatrial shunt to decompress the portal and IVC hypertension. During the 6-year follow-up, the patient was able to resume work as a salesperson and has since led a normal life.
Takayasu's arteritis (TA) is a chronic vasculitis involving the aorta and its main branches, the pulmonary arteries, and the coronary tree. Here we report a case of TA complicated by severe stenosis of the left coronary ostium with multivessel brachiocephalic involvement. A combination of these abnormalities could complicate underlying illness in patients, posing an increased risk of surgical morbidity.

Methods: A 32-year-old woman presented with late stage BCS. She was treated with a mesojugular shunt to relieve her portal hypertension.
Purpose: Uniform and tubular surface seeding is a prerequisite for tissue-engineered blood vessels to mature properly in a bioreactor. Our objective was to investigate reendothelialization of tubular scaffolds by the synergistic forces of sedimentation and rotation, so as to fabricate tissue-engineered venous grafts in vitro.
Materials And Methods: Canine bone-marrow-derived endothelial progenitor cells were expanded in vitro.
Purpose: To present a preliminary experience with a single-branch endograft for excluding Stanford type B aortic dissections with entry tears adjacent to the left subclavian artery (LSA).
Methods: From February to August 2004, 16 symptomatic patients (15 men; mean age 57.8 years, range 41-73) having a Stanford B aortic dissection with a proximal tear <15 mm from the LSA orifice were treated with a single-branch thoracic endograft constructed of Z-shaped nitinol stents to which a Dacron graft had been sutured.
Aim: Exploring the development of therapy for a formerly rare and life-threatening disorder, Budd-Chiari syndrome (BCS).
Methods: From 1981 to 2003, 2677 patients with BCS were admitted including 2546 cases that underwent intervention. Therapeutic means included 170 membranotomies, 181 cavoatrial shunts, 312 mesoatrial shunts including mesocavoatrial shunt, 67 mesojugular shunts, 232 radical resections, 1289 PTA, and 295 miscellaneous procedures.
A series of novel heterocyclic analogues have been synthesized and evaluated for their ability to inhibit phenylalanyl-t-RNA synthetases and act as antibacterial agents. Several analogues have good antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus.

We report the case of a 46-year-old female patient with Marfan syndrome who presented with excruciating retrosternal pain and breathing distress after a bowel movement with stress. Magnetic resonance imaging and multicolour sonography showed type A aortic dissection extending from the aortic root to the right iliac artery, with intimal tears in the ascending aorta above the sinotubular junction, the distal arch beyond the left subclavian artery and the isthmic region.
