Endocrine-disrupting compounds (EDCs) enter lakes mainly through river inflow. However, the occurrence, transport and fate of EDCs in the overlying water, suspended particulate matter (SPM) and sediment of inflowing rivers remain unclear. This study investigated the load of seven EDCs in a complex river-lake system of the Taihu Lake Basin during different seasons, with the aims of revealing the transport routes of EDCs and identifying the contributions from different sources.

Semiconductor photocatalysis has long been regarded as a potential solution to tackle the energy and environmental challenges since the first discovery of water splitting by TiO almost 50 years ago. The past few years have seen a tremendous flurry of research interest in the modification of semiconductors because of their shortcomings in the aspects of solar harvesting, electron-hole pairs separation, and utilization of photogenerated carriers. Among the various strategies, the introduction of metallic copper into the photocatalysis system can not only enhance the absorption of sunlight and the separation efficiency of photogenerated electrons and holes, but also increase the adsorption ability of substrate and the number of active sites, so as to realize the high solar to chemical energy conversion efficiency.

Exploiting highly active and methanol-resistant lipase is of great significance for biodiesel production. A semi-rational directed evolution method combined with N-glycosylation is reported, and all mutants exhibiting higher catalytic activity and methanol tolerance than the wild type (WT). Mutant N267 retained 64% activity after incubation in 50% methanol for 8 h, which was 48% greater than that of WT.

Shengmai Yin (SMY) is a Chinese herbal decoction that effectively alleviates the side effects of radiotherapy in various cancers and helps achieve radiotherapy's clinical efficacy. In this study, we explored the interaction mechanism among SMY, DNA methylation, and nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC). We identified differences in DNA methylation levels in NPC CNE-2 cells and its radioresistant cells (CNE-2R) using the methylated DNA immunoprecipitation array and found that CNE-2R cells showed genome-wide changes in methylation status towards a state of hypomethylation.

Closed-cell rigid polyimide foams with excellent thermal stability and combined properties were prepared by thermal foaming of a reactive end-capped polyimide precursor powder in a closed mold. The precursor powder was obtained by thermal treatment of a polyester-amine salt (PEAS) solution derived from the reaction of the diethyl ester of 2,3,3',4'-biphenyl tetracarboxylic dianhydride (α-BPDE) with an aromatic diamine mixture of p-phenylenediamine (PDA) and 2-(4-aminophenyl)-5-aminobenzimidazole (BIA) in the presence of an end-capping agent (mono-ethyl ester of nadic acid anhydride, NE) in an aliphatic alcohol. The effect of polymer mainchain structures on the foaming processability and combined properties of the closed-cell rigid polyimide foams were systematically investigated.

In this study, we explored the relationship between physical activity (PA), coping style (CS) and negative affect caused by public health emergencies (PHENA), to examine if CS can play a mediating role between PA and PHENA, and analyzed the different effects of positive coping (PC) and negative coping (NC). Using the method of random sampling, 700 students from four universities in Beijing and Shanghai were recruited to complete questionnaires about PA, CS and PHENA. We demonstrate high quality (Q) factor microring resonators in high index-contrast GeSbSe chalcogenide glass waveguides using electron-beam lithography followed by plasma dry etching. A microring resonator with a radius of 90 μm shows an intrinsic Q factor of 4.1 × 10 in the telecom band.
