Purpose: To summarize the effect of mental health first aid (MHFA) on paramedics and medical nursing students and provide direction to future training and research.

Methods: Seven databases, including Web of Science, PubMed, Embase, Cochrane, China Knowledge, Wanfang, and China Biomedical Literature Database, were searched for relevant studies from database establishment up to January 31, 2023. The Cochrane risk of bias tool was used to assess the quality of randomized controlled trials, qualitative studies, and single-armed trials on the basis of the literature evaluation criteria developed by the JBI Center for Evidence-Based Healthcare in Australia.

Hereditary spastic paraplegias (HSPs) refer to a genetically and clinically heterogeneous group of neurodegenerative disorders characterized by the degeneration of motor neurons. To date, a significant number of patients still have not received a definite genetic diagnosis. Therefore, identifying unreported causative genes continues to be of great importance.

Background: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is the most common form of neurodegenerative disorder, which is characterized by a decline in cognitive abilities. Genome-wide association and clinicopathological studies have demonstrated that the CD2-associated protein (CD2AP) gene is one of the most important genetic risk factors for AD. However, the precise mechanisms by which CD2AP is linked to AD pathogenesis remain unclear.

Disease-associated microglia (DAM) are observed in neurodegenerative diseases, demyelinating disorders, and aging. However, the spatiotemporal dynamics and evolutionary trajectory of DAM during the progression of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) remain unclear. Using a mouse model of ALS that expresses a human gene mutation, we found that the microglia subtype DAM begins to appear following motor neuron degeneration, primarily in the brain stem and spinal cord.

Real-time monitoring of key quality variables is essential and crucial for stable and safe operations of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs). Next generation reservoir computing (NG-RC) has recently garnered significant attention in quality prediction, such as COD and BOD, as an effective alternative to traditional reservoir computing (RC), then is able to act as a data-driven soft sensor to twin a hardware sensor for quality variable measurements. Unlike RC, NG-RC does not require random sampling matrices to define the weights of recurrent neural networks and has fewer hyperparameters.

The integration of multiple functions within a single fluorescent molecule provides a promising platform for developing versatile, efficient, and cost-effective materials with enhanced performance across diverse applications. In this study, we introduce TPEC, an aggregation-induced emission (AIE) molecule derived from tetraphenylethylene-based tetracarboxylate, which demonstrates multifunctional capabilities, including metal ion sensing and self-erasable writing. TPEC exhibits amphiphilicity in water, self-assembling into single-layer nanosheets with robust blue fluorescence.

Article Synopsis
  • This study focuses on improving artificial light-harvesting systems (LHSs) for better energy capture and fluorescence in water-based environments by using a new compound called TPEN.
  • TPEN is combined with another substance, PSS, resulting in a network that boosts blue fluorescence and can be paired with a dye called DBT to create an effective LHS that emits yellow light.
  • The research highlights a sustainable and affordable method for creating adjustable light-emitting devices, suggesting significant possibilities for enhancing energy-efficient lighting solutions in the future.

RNA methylation is an important regulatory process to determine immune cell function but how it affects the anti-tumor activity of CD8 T cells is not fully understood. Here we show that the N-methyladenosine (mA) RNA reader YTHDF2 is highly expressed in early effector or effector-like CD8 T cells. We find that YTHDF2 facilitates nascent RNA synthesis, and mA recognition is fundamental for this distinctively nuclear function of the protein, which also reinforces its autoregulation at the RNA level.

Article Synopsis
  • Oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) is a deadly form of head and neck cancer, with unclear mechanisms behind its development, but studies indicate that saliva from OSCC patients accelerates cancer progression in rat models.
  • Metabolomic analyses show that patients with OSCC have higher levels of kynurenic acid (KYNA) in their saliva and tumor tissues, which is correlated with the presence of Streptococcus mutans bacteria that contribute to KYNA production.
  • The increased KYNA promotes a tumor microenvironment that enhances immune suppression, leading to poorer outcomes in OSCC patients and suggesting that targeting oral microbiota may offer new prevention and treatment strategies for this type of cancer.

The CACNA1A gene encodes the alpha-1A subunit of P/Q type voltage-gated calcium channel Ca2.1, which is associated with a broad clinical spectrum and variable symptomatology. While few patients with progressive ataxia caused by CACNA1A missense variants have been reported, here we report three unrelated Chinese patients with progressive ataxia due to de novo missense variants in the CACNA1A gene, including a novel pathogenic variant (c.

The blood brain barrier (BBB) limits the application of most therapeutic drugs for neurological diseases (NDs). Hybrid cell membrane-coated nanoparticles derived from different cell types can mimic the surface properties and functionalities of the source cells, further enhancing their targeting precision and therapeutic efficacy. Neuroinflammation has been increasingly recognized as a critical factor in the pathogenesis of various NDs, especially Alzheimer's disease (AD).

Inspired by natural photosynthetic systems that feature both sequential energy transfer and temperature response, we herein report an artificial thermosensitive sequential light-harvesting system (LHS) based on an amphiphilic molecule TPEO. It self-assembles into fluorescent nanoparticles in water and shows tunable LCST behavior. By loading ESY as the first acceptor and NiR as the second acceptor into the nanoparticles, an artificial LHS with two-step FRET was successfully constructed.
